I'm using asc.add for an Advansys ABP-915 and the driver displays
the following during boot:
AscInitGetConfig() warn_code 128
Does anyone know what it means?

Hi,

most probably and according to Google search like
http://orange.kame.net/dev/cvsweb.cgi/kame/netbsd/sys/dev/ic/adwlib.h?rev=1.1
(serach for "warn_code" in the page) it stands for
/* PCI config space set error */
...which can pretty much mean everything related to PnP I'm afraid. Like wrong IRQ, shared IRQ, whatever.
Try plugging the SCSI controller card into a different PCI slot (if possible) in that case.

Perhaps it also means
/* set SCSI ID failed */
...which in turn can be related to wrong/duplicate SCSI-adressing of a device. Perhaps also a mis-configuration of SCSI BIOS options (if the controller has a configurable BIOS).

Hope this helps (although not sure as the above is drawn from Linux driver code and heavily "interpreted"...)

Thanks. Actually I saw a similar linux site earlier and I guess the "128" refers
to one of the following:
0x0080 /* PCI config space set error */
0x0080 /* set SCSI ID failed */
I'm trying to get a HP 8200 SCSI scanner to work with SANE.
Sane-find-scanner.exe reports: found SCSI scanner "HP C9930A 1.03" at b1t2l0
while ASC.ADD during boot reports adapter 0 target 2 lun 0.
I have only one scsi adapter so how come SANE shows  "b1" instead of "b0" ?
Seems like I have to find a way to access the SCSI BIOS.

According to the readme for asc.add typing Ctl-A during
Advansys bios device scan at boot time should bring me
to the Advansys bios, but that does not work.
Any ideas ?

Is your keyboard USB or PS/2 and are Legacy USB devices enabled in your BIOS options?

Life is too short to fool around with obscure hardware. Ditch it.

I have numerous Adaptec 2940s, in nearly all varieties, that I'd be happy to mail you at cost of postage. PM me.

Raiko

I'm using USB keyboard and it works from the moment the BM is displayed.

Thanks for offering an Adaptec, but I won't give up on the Advansys just yet
since I had it working in another system before. (It works under XP on this
new pc I'm using now.)

Saijin_Naib

Can you try a PS/2 keyboard or turn on Legacy USB devices? Your keyboard may not be initialized early enough for it to pass the keyboard shortcut to open the RAID (?) controller bios option.

Raiko

In the meantime I put the card in another pc with eCS1.2 and no acpi,
and it loads fine. I'm trying to make it work with eCS2RC5 and ACPI 3.11 so
I'm reading the confusing acpi docs....once again.....

Saijin_Naib

Raiko, have you access to the latest ACPI? It may have some more fixes that may help you.

Raiko

Tried ACPI09102008 acpi.psd size 379009, but no difference other than
it displayed some "weird" stuff during boot.

With ver 3.11 (size 247182) acpi.psd /SMP /APIC /!NOD the asc.add driver
loads without any error message, but the systems hangs just before WPS.

Saijin_Naib

Do you have Uniaud support installed? Try remming out Uniaud to make sure it's not an ACPI/Uniaud conflict.

Raiko

No, I have not even tried to install that yet

Saijin_Naib

Hrmm, can you give a description of your hardware setup and what software you have (SMP/UNI/W4 kernel, etc)
