I backed up my dbExpert files with Backagain 2000, then installed eCS2.0 rc6a. Need to restore the dbE files. I have followed the instructions for for Restoring files. However, the restore hangs after restoring just a few files. Once it hangs, the radio buttons (close, minimize, maximize) do not work. The only way I can cancel the restore is to shut down the system and restart. I need the dbExpert files from the backup on my notebook's HDD. HELP!
Thanks in advance.

I'd look at two things.

1. The log file.
2. Try doing the restore from command line using CLREST

What am I looking for in the log file?

Try
         x:/BA2KWS/Logs/MESSAGES.LOG

There is nothing in the messages.log file.

The Backagain/2000 restore gets hung up on dbe.dll. It just stops. dbe.dll is 1,143,758 bytes, but I wouldn't think that would cause a problem.
   1. Does Backagain2000 stop for awhile on a program(dll) file and then restart? Mine hasn't and I left it sit for 15 minutes.
   2. How do I solve this problem Backagain2000 seems to have with dll files?

Did you also try to restore to a specified location, different of the original one? This may be useful for avoiding conflicts especially with locked files. After that you may copy the files to the original position. Sometimes there may be encountered inconsistencies with the catalog files concerning different backup sets. A rebuild of the archive catalog on the incriminated backup will be useful in this case.

I had a similar experience recently when restoring a backed up c: jfs-formatted partition running eCS v2 that I found was specific to restoring to a new JFS formatted drive.  I assumed it was a quirk related to restoring a c: partition from jfs to jfs as I had never had an issue when performing this same procedure when backing up a HPFS drive to another HPFS drive.

I don't know if you are trying to restore to a jfs formatted drive or not, or if my experience is somewhat similar.  I am throwing it out there for scrutiny and possible benefit to others because I was able to find an acceptable work-around.

I included an exerpt from a few notes I took at the time to document what I needed to do for the next time around.  Essentially, it turned into a 2 step process restoring root directory files and folders separately.  I hope it helps and possibly provides a work-around solutuion for you.  If so, let me know.

Things learned:
1 - ......
2 - Backagain was used to restore the *.dat backup file from the previous step to the drive mentioned above.  When this was done, I had to do it in a 2 step process.
step 1: restore the files on the root first without any of the folders.  Select to include
              only those files and restore.
Step 2: select to restore the entire drive and exclude all the root files restored
in step 1 above and restore
If the restore is done restoring all the files at once, Backagain aborts at the
beginning of the restore for an unknown reason.  If the restore is done in this 2 step
process, it will restore successfully.  This was not the case when restoring a HPFS
    op system partition.
