Hi

Something got broken on the bridge that connects the main site (joomla) with the wiki (MediaWiki). I will need to make it manual for newer users.  It is hard to fix this since the JFusion script project were abandon and now the newer versions of SMFoum and MediaWiki broked.

John, I will write you to your registered email and set a password for the OS2world wiki.

Have people completely abandoned ODIN development or is there still someone maintaining the project? WINE has gone a long way as well as ReactOS during last years. I am wondering if it would be possible to make ODIN also more up to date with current software.

But the problem must usually be too few developers for OS/2 in general. For example, the only FileZilla built I was able to find is at alpha stage and very unusable. And the OS/2 version of Gimp is a very ancient version with very limited functionality.

I think WINE has not gone. At least CodeWeavers launched CrossOver v.19 this year https://www.codeweavers.com/about/support-wine

FYI: I update the news from time to time on Zophar's Domain (Emulation site) and Wine 5.16 (dev release) for Linux was released on August 28, 2020. So Wine is still getting updates.

Hello

Bringing back this really of thread, just to let you know...

- Visualization Software Spectrogram 16 (2008-05-18) was included on the wiki and in hobbes. Audio Spectrum Analysis utility.
- IrfanView 4.6.7 (2024-04-05) also includes in the wiki and hobbes. Photo viewer.

I tried PhotoFiltre 7.2.1 but it crashed on me when I try to open a picture. (https://www.photofiltre-studio.com/utils/pf7-en-7.2.1.zip)

Hello

Does somebody that knows to play Rummy (The card game) check if this Win32 software is working for us?

While at first it seems to work, starting a game,it offers a tutorial which is empty, then the cards are dealt and vanish. It's been a long time since I've played rummy but pretty sure you can look at your hand.

Thanks Dave for giving it a try.

Searching the wayback machine later I found that they migrated to Java and changed the name of the game to RRRumy (I guess to avoid trademark problems). I tested the Java app and work for us. The tiles shows up and seems more playable.
I uploaded it to hobbes for people that like to play it: https://hobbesarchive.com/Home/Download?path=/Hobbes/pub/java/games/board/RRRumy_7-3-4.zip

It is like the board game Rummikub, and I had played it. So I guess Rummy was the original cards game and Rummikub is the ones with tiles.

Thanks.

I still dream of an MS Office 95 or 97, 2000 with a PM Titlebar. The installation may work, but the programs crash, the worst is Word. Schedule+ runs pretty well and Excel can also be started but does not last long. Updates for Odin would be very nice.

Hi

Just checking some other thread it makes me wonder if we should try to revisit some of the old Windows 32bits programs that used to run on ODIN and check how are they running today. Maybe today testing those apps can be easier with Virtual Machines, back on the early days of ODIN,  I remember I used to test some Windows apps with more constrains since I didn't want to screw up my OS/2 working configuration on real hardware and had bandwith limitations to download software.

Today I tried RealPlayer 8, to remember the old days, maybe it is not very useful now. But it was fun to see that the installer already worked, and also the program. I just run "pe rp8-setup.exe" and it installed, "pe realplayer.exe" to run the software.

I also remember that mirc used to work, but I didn't have the old ones, I tried the latest v7.55. It also installed, but it crashed with some error when I tried to run it.

Maybe it can be interesting to revisit some old Win32bits games.

Any Win32bits software that you remember that used to work, or maybe that you still use?

Regards

You might have already seen some of my posts about me getting back to using OS/2 now that I'm retired. I will start working on small C programs on OS/2 but I need to know what would be the best compiler to use with the expectation that once I get used to writing programs for OS/2 again I want to help out with projects such as ODIN to hopefully work with the WINE group that makes it so that Windows apps runs on Linux and other version of UNIX.

Why re-invent the wheel when they have done most of the work already?

If we could get Windows games running on OS/2 and have them running better and faster than on Windows or at least close to as good then people that are interested in alternate OSs would get more interested in OS/2 and hopefully get more life (money) into OS/2 so that your company makes more money and we have more people using OS/2 which would be good for all of us that LOVE OS/2 and feel that the world in OS/2 is pretty small even compared to the open source version of BeOS (Haiku) is. Their message board is a LOT more active than this one and anything that can be done to get this board and this OS/2 more used and active would be a good thing.

Ultimately we NEED a 64 bit version of an operating system that works and feels like OS/2 that can run 64-bit, 32-bit, 16-bit and even 8-bit DOS programs (GAMES!!! GAMES!!! GAMES!!!) to draw more interest and keep OS/2 living after 32 bit computers die out or get too expensive.

I KNOW that people have tried that before and those attempts died out. But OS/2 WILL die out TOO if something isn't done to create a 64-bit version of OS/2 that can run all the OS/2 programs it can run now, the Windows programs it can run now, and the DOS programs it can run now.

Life either evolves or it dies out. Just ask all of the different hominids (human like creatures) that existed on this earth and died out with homo sapiens being the last "humanoid" creatures still on this earth and all the other animals that have gone extinct. I don't think anyone wants that for OS/2.

If you want to write programs for OS/2 natively (not port code). then use OpenWatcom compiler. If you want to port Linux code to OS/2 use the GCC compiler and here for Paul Smedley his development environment.
