We discussed some time the policy to maintain only the latest version of a software on hobbes, with the exception of libraries, drivers and development tools. Some other exception may apply (like fixpacks) and we can discuss it.

My vote would be to maintain earlier versions of all software.  If the author wants only the latest version of his/her product, then hobbes should honor that.  But otherwise, save the old.  I have found too many examples of new stuff that does not work on my systems, or does not work as well as, previous versions.  Three specific examples: xFree86, VLC, and PmPrintf.  I do not mention these three to single them out as bad - all three are excellent products.  I just can't get them to run on my systems - even though I know they run on other people's machines.  So my choice is to use an earlier version that does run, or not run them at all.

If the version of the product is clearly indicated, either in a version field as suggested, or as part of the name, then I don't see the harm in keeping older stuff.  Other than the bits that might be wasted storing the stuff.

Hmm, I didn't have a homepage setup, now I do and it seems to work fine. Perhaps try reentering in the settings, which hopefully aren't corrupt.
Not sure how to test your other issue. Files open fine here from the command line, both text and HTML.
I do see in the release notes,
2026.02.15,
Interpret command-line arguments as local files first and then as remote locations. See 2025.11.25 item.
New Settings -> Web -> Local Content Can Access File URLs.
New Settings -> Web -> Special Files Suffixes.
2026.03.31,
Corrected argument processing. For example, --listen is interpreted as a URL.

Unluckily Textmaster doesn't document this stuff too well.

I'm compiling this with VAC 3.08, using the supplied makefiles. Just used GCC to see if better error reporting.
My VAC 3.08 install, kindly donated by Arca Noae, doesn't have lnkods50.exe. I know very little about VAC 3.

My mistake: it's provided by ILink 5.0. A copy is attached.

OK thanks.
Now it dies with a couple of of unresolved externals. DisplayResize and mprintf.
These both seem to be defined in image\misc, so perhaps that is the first directory to compile.
Dariusz, I haven't done much besides things like removing some CTRL-Z and changing WIN95COMPILE to WIN95_COMPILE for consistency.
The OS/2 and Win95 code are intertwined and not protected by #ifdef good enough.

OK, my Xserver is dated 28/09/00 and 1591272 bytes, other files the same as yours.
I tried running install from the UX1135 package. It offered to reinstall or update, I chose update. It bitched a bit about my install already being the latest but allowed me to update. Now it is working, though haven't tested too much.
I think at the end, they just published a serial number to freely use the package, I see it in ini.ini along with my name etc. It is dated 19/11/02, so that is likely when I installed it.
Anyways, seems to be properly installed and working now, even the desktop folder is there.

Hello

I would like to have some feedback from the people that upload new releases of OS/2 software about the new hobbes.

If Lars Erdmann, Mentore Siesto, Rich and other developers can register and let me know, I will give them "Editor" access.
Just give me some feedback.

Also, everybody is welcome to register to download the files and let me know any missing files.

The snapshot I removed from HobbesArchive was from 2026-02-15, so some of the latest uploads may be missing.

Damn...

I'm 3.65 here and having been pulling my hair for the last two days I've made no progress. Tried Rich's sugestions, that actually resulted in more errors, so I stopped there.

Having said that...oh boy, I haven't read so much about compiler calling conventions, the history, the differences - as in stack placement order, etc, etc - like EVER!!!  8)  So there is a tiny little win here after all...

Anyways, Dave, if you get this compiling successfully post here please whatever changes you made b/c I'd love to understand what's causing me the problems I'm seeing here - for all I know it's my environment seeing as I have the IBMCPP 3.65, VAC4, the Toolkit and then the RPM Toolkit all installed here. Mind you, I manage all of this through tool specific environment setup CMD files...still, something can alway sneak through!

Thanks!

I think HOBX11 is a topic all its own, including the question of whether buyers can implement the described mix without worry.

The copy I have was being given out for free at the end of HOBX11 development. The problem is that it only works on the Warp V4 install that I originally installed it on and the original package is lost. I didn't purchase eCS until version 2 which didn't include HobX11.

That's interesting – I hadn't heard of that before. Perhaps someone else has an original package and can help out?

In the eCS version, the xserver.exe file is dated March 12, 2003. startwin.exe is dated September 28, 2000; the log file declares the version as X11/PM 3.5 (20000927). It's conceivable that the eCS version contains customizations that are missing from the freely distributed version (?).

So far, I've followed the instructions I know (they work). But my curiosity got the better of me.

Regarding the installation, I tried a different approach today in a VM with AOS 5.1.2. I installed the UX1135 package from https://www.os2site.com/sw/xfree86/. This is the trial version(?); entering a serial number is grayed out, i.e., blocked. The installation went smoothly. I then imported the data previously exported from eCS using regedit2. No further adjustments were made.

HOBX11 starts without errors. The sercurit2.dll required by the eCS version is not requested. The xserver.exe file version is from September 28, 2000, and only slightly smaller than that of the eCS version.

From this minimal difference, I conclude that there are no real functional differences. Perhaps the eCS version simply added an extra INI check for the license. UX1135 apparently manages without the previously described overhead.

Whether the test installation with overwritten registry data will start reliably in the long run remains to be seen. I will first test whether the functions run identically to the eCS version. I haven't found any information on limitations, so trial and error is the only option. If the test installation runs identically to the eCS version after 30 days, I might be able to handle future reinstallations more quickly.

Dave,

I've had a couple problems with the last couple builds of Dooble for QT6. One is when I open it, my home page does not come up (it is set in settings) but the address bar at the top just shows: 'https' with nothing else. The other is when I try to open an html email from PMMail, it does not open and the address bar of Dooble shows something like 'https://c/Programs/PMMail/Accounts...' instead of 'file:///c:/Programs/PMMail/Account...'. The 2026-02-09.zip version was the last one that these things worked.

Hello

- I see a lot of files having a description, only some files where it is missing (you already mentioned that)
Yes, with some work these last two weeks I have reduced the missing descriptions/tittles to only 7.4%. There are a lot of icons and themes that it will take more time to complete.

I'm looking for more people to help me out. If you register I can give you "Editor" access so you can also help me improve the descriptions of the files.

- You have a "version" field, but it is mostly unused. But the version is most of the time already part of the title of the description. Can't this be filled in automatically in this case?
I will check with Jason if he has some idea about this.

- Maybe it would be worth to add a "release date" (and fill in if a date is available) and change "date" to "upload date"?
This is a good idea. I will check with Jason

- and perhaps for a later phase. I'm also in retro computing and some of the file bases have that (in my opinion) nifty feature that they group software by title. So, e.g. if you search for "Canon" in printer drivers, you would get a list with only the latest "Canon_BJ" and "Canon_CaPSL" releases. If you then click on one of these, you can see the older versions as well, below the latest version as a list. Something which is done very nicely here https://files.mega65.org/html/main.php.
I will check the sample and discuss this.

- and please leave the current design untouched, it always feels like home visiting Hobbes  ;)
The idea is to leave the default design in that blue Hobbes style, but people that register

Thanks for the feedback.
