Update:

I'm not sure what happened but "suddenly" the HP EliteDesk started allowing me boot from DVD. However I was getting an error that was crashing the computer. According to HP's website you are to reset everything to factory settings and then re-install ... it's 1:34 am and I don't remember what it said but the end result is that I did what it said and now the computer can't see USB ports OR the DVD drive AND I don't have access to a network port because my wife and I are having work done on our house and the rB&B we are staying in only has wifi with the router in the house next door that the owners are living in and I don't feel comfortable going over there to ask permission to ask to access their network ports.

After delays (totally expected) they are now finally supposed to be with our house in a week and then my wife wants to hire a company to go in and clean up all the dust in the house from the construction. Once that is done we will be back in the house and I will have access to a network port and will be able to have access to a network port.

Firmware. That's what I need to re-download so it can see the USB ports and the CD/DVD drive. Until then it can't so that is what I'm waiting for. I will update you once I know more.

You said that audio wasn't working until you contacted Arca Noae. Care to share what they helped you with, if you remember?

The eCS system will work. You have to use the proper tools to set up the stick. On the ISO is the directory AOSBOOT containing aosboot.cmd, aosboot.text and the WORK directory. The version of AOSBOOT has to match your ISO.
Code: [Select]
D:\AOSBOOT>aosboot.cmd

  usage: aosboot <drive:> <path to .ISO file>

  example: aosboot Q: C:\downloads\ArcaOS-5.1.iso

This script creates a bootable USB drive you can use
to install ArcaOS. It supports booting both BIOS and
UEFI-based systems. Any USB drive >= 2gb can be used
as-is.  If the disk has more than one partition, you
can enter any of the drive letters assigned to it.

Warning! This process will repartition the USB drive
and will DESTROY all of its current content.

Since copying files to flash drives can be very slow
this process may take 10-30 minutes.

For additional details, please read "aosboot.txt"

AosBoot v2 (c)2017,2019 RL Walsh, (c)2017,2019 Arca Noae

I can't remember if eCS came with a easy way to mount the ISO, on AOS oo.exe will do it, oo path\to\ISO. eCS might have had it.

Thanks Dave. I appreciate your help too.

Sabon,

As for OS/2 being easy to install in the past - that was only true if you were lucky.  I can remember spending hours on the phone with IBM tech support trying to get OS/2 installed on some early machines.   And if you are old enough to remember the cow computers (Gateway Corp.) then chances are the transition to machines with UEFI firmware is going to be a bit difficult.  It was for me.

Back in 1996 we only had BIOS and I literally inserted disk 1 and rebooted and it prompted me through disk 38 (3.5" "floppies back then) and a final reboot and it was up and running. We didn't have all the extra security on computers back then.

I'm sure I struggled with "something" as that was more than 25 years ago but I honestly don't remember any problems installing it back then.
