[Beta installation] How to damage partition in VM?
« on: May 22, 2026, 09:25:56 am »
Hiya all.
As part of the Italian NLS team I' trying to install the latest beta release in order to fully translate the italian manuals.
I noticed there's a nice section on what to do with LVM in order to correct damaged partitions/volumes, but it seems I can't simulate a broken partition under Virtualbox and currently I don't have a baremetal machine on which to install the OS.

I explored some solution, like using a linux installation to break the partition table or damage somehow the installation partition, but I'm having a lot of problems and my spare time is short, so here's my question: how can I simulate a failed volume / partition in Virtualbox?

Thanks in advance.

Now boot Linux in a the VM and create a small Linux partition, since it does not have a LVM DLAT sector LVM should report an error.
