Update ArcaOS 5.1 without USB or DVD?
« on: April 15, 2026, 10:03:45 am »
Hi,

is there any possibility to update a 5.1.1 installation to 5.1.2 without a DVD or USB drive from a running system, like a service pack for OS/2?

* System Update is possible via ArcaOS installer only.

* you can update some drivers manually, lift 5.1.1 to the level of 5.1.2

Hello Alexco

My mind is blank with that question  :D

Can you tell me a little bit of the need? Do you have machine that does not have USB and DVD-ROM ? Or does not have DVD-ROM and don't have the ability to boot from USB?

Read the instructions (aosboot.txt), in particular "Using AOSBoot with a Hard Drive". This only works on BIOS-based machines.

Yes, I have an old ThinkPad here, which refuses to boot from USB. And the DVD drive is picky about which DVD it really wants to read. So, having the possibility to update the system like a service pack (I mean, it really is a service pack, if you look at the version number) would be helpful here.

I've used the method Rich mentioned above. It works. You will need a disk partition for the installer.

Now I just need to resize a partition. Hope that works.
