Project: hobbes.os-2.in to [permenant home] etc...

Hi OS/2 folk-land,

I'm the developer of Hobbes Gram (currently at hobbes.os-2.in). I'm reaching out because I'd value your input on two things:

1. Settling on a permanent domain name for the project, and
2. Suggestions for the best name or descriptive phrase to use going forward.

I want to keep "Hobbes" in the name to honor the legacy. I emailed Nathan from the original Hobbes archive but haven't heard back yet, and I'm not sure if he's active here. When Nathan was considering stepping away, I started developing Hobbes Gram to keep the momentum alive. Martin has been in regular communication with me throughout development and felt this would be a good time to introduce myself more directly and gather broader community input.

I haven't been very active on the forums until now, so I'm glad to finally say hello. Beyond Martin's excellent feedback, I'd really appreciate hearing any concerns, ideas for direction, or thoughts on the naming and domain from the wider community.

What do you think? Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated. I am also open to teaming up with any folks interested in doing some things I can't currently do myself, either because I lack the experience or because it would take too much time for me to learn.

I am also willing to barter skills/time. For example I have a laptop with ArcaOS 5.1 and a IBM PS/2 model 70 (386) where I can use guidance for starting up "Warp" speed. On the PS/2 I want to write an OS/2 Fan book (https://book.os-2.in) and want to do so on a proper platform, in LaTeX preferred. On the laptop I want to do demo videos of software for OS/2 to upload to YouTube. I've done a few already, a bit of time ago (https://www.youtube.com/@OS2orNiceTry)

Be a pleasurable experience with Warp 3. Can't remember when the minimum requirement came for a 486 but 16 MB was the minimum for Warp 4.
The Hobbes CD is interesting, there's a few ISO's floating around, Hobbes was much different back then and at some point it must have got wiped and restarted with what was the current setup.

Yes, I also remember much more software packages on Hobbes, also for older OS/2 versions.
Somewhere in the attic, I also have some old CDs. Maybe it is worth to upload the old software again?

At Warpstock Europe there was a suggestion that "hobbes.os-2.in" may be a "tongue twister" 
Thinking about a new domain may be good.

The other question is how people should link the files. I prefer to link files with the search "https://hobbes.os-2.in/search?q=usbdrv". I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, but that is the way I do it for the OS2World wiki and the EDM/2.

OTOH, it is nice to have a link that can be passed to wget.

That is fine when referencing a group of files or a file that may be moved to another category, so the search link function is good as a dynamic link that won't necessarily change. wget / curl link would me more specific to a file. ie: https://hobbes.os-2.in/download/os2/system-6/drivers-4/usb/usbdrv253.zip

Not sure how the mend both scenarios.

Moreover I called the software HobbesGram, so maybe we go with a likewise domain?

I was trying to think of a good name. OS/2 always had a StarTrek theme to it and I thought of their library planet "Memory-Alpha". But apparently that is the name of the actual StarTrek repository, so that's out. Of course anything with a 2 at the end seems OS/2 oriented.

hobbesgram is fine. Unfortunately every file is in a different place compared to Hobbes or to HobbesArchive. So for me with a website with hundreds of links to files on Hobbes, I have a big job in front of me.

When I get the extra funds in a month will get the hobbes2 domain and maybe redirect that (forward) to hobbesgram. Migration is almost done. Need to test things out before announcing it.

Martin also recommended I fix searching regex issue. For example searching cdu8002a yielding null where "cdu8002a" did not. Now they both yield results.

Will announce in a new post when hobbesgram.org migration is complete. Will setup a late night of migration for that purpose in the near.
