Hello

I'm trying to help a friend that speaks Spanish to know if his USB scanner will run in ArcaOS, and I was never good with scanners.

Is there ay experience with the "Canon Canoscan Lide 400" (HardwareID: 04a9:1912) ?
What is you feeling about this one? should it work or not?

What steps do you recommend to test if it works or now?

The ecups-hp.drv drivers are an older version of psprint.drv with some hp drivers already loaded so are probably not much use to you.

No port number needed.

You should check whether there are any failed print jobs still in the cups queue and Cancel/Delete any that exist before attempt any more printing - you may find a Test Page will print then.

It seems later versions of cupswiz, cups.pdr and print manager are only available with ArcaOS - both my systems are ArcaOS and these packages are installed during ArcaOS installation so cannot advise on installing from zip file. I think I would either have both in the same directory or make sure the respective paths are in config.sys SET Path statement.

The latest publicly available versions of cupswiz, cups.pdr and print manager seem to be at  http://www.altsan.org/os2/printing/  - seem to be the versions you have.

As the psprint.drv does not contain a HP Envy 4500 Series option when you go through the motions of creating a printer something obviously goes wrong somewhere. The difficulty is figuring out where...

I think you need to start with creating a printer using the cups web interface and getting it to print the cups Test page.

Then we may have to manually add a modified version of the ppd file that cups uses to a "clean" psprint.drv - but lets see if we can get the cups Test page to print first.

I worked with it a little last night.  I will attach some pictures although I don't know how helpful they might be.  At least it gives you some visuals on what I am seeing.  I did get one Test Page to print using the driver that is listed as "hpcups (en, en)" in the Web interface.  It printed the page once but would not repeat the print.  But, I had also been able to print using the driver listed "hpcups (en)" before.  Last night it would not print the page with that driver.  I have never been able to get it to print the Test Page with the hpijs driver.  The print jobs usually show up as "stopped" right after I send them.  Eventually, they show up with a "filter failed" note.  It is inconsistent.  When it does print the Test Page there is usually a long delay between the time I click the button to print and the time it actually prints. 

This probably has nothing to do with it but the thought crossed my mind wondering if the fact that the printer is being used wirelessly instead of with an Ethernet cable has anything to do with it.  I did see an HP printer with an Ethernet port in a thrift shop yesterday but it did not have a power supply so I would have to source a power supply (and cartridges) so I did not bring home that printer.

I don't know if I have mentioned it before but I have the 106 kernel.  I bought the Arca Noae driver package so I have most of those installed like the FAT32 and ACPI drivers.  I don't know if any of that has any effect on the printing.  Thanks,

I'm currently developing a taskbar for myself that meets all my needs. I love the Warp 4 and Win9x/2K styles and think they complement each other very well. I'll be uploading it to hobbes soon, without any guarantee. The icons shown are not included. You can drag and drop the graphics for the Start button, the Start menu icons, and the text on the left.

One more quick note:
I'm developing this taskbar for myself in my free time, but I'm happy to share it. I can't accept suggestions for improvement. If you don't like it, don't worry about it.

With the right build version of sane you can just run it, and it will say that it find the scanner or not.
With the wrong version, you'll only get SIGSEGV and debug output.

Try to run scanimage.exe on the command line without parameter, but with the scanner attached and on.
It should try to find it and report something back other than
scanimage: no SANE devices found

had so much fun... and problems to resolve... CodeMirror 5 was very reluctant to cooperate (Syntax highlightning now in place, but how to split code need some work).
However, there are things there still for you to fix. 
But as you may notice, I've now included AI image generating features that rely on your Ai service to do the translation first.

I've also created a build system... mkpkg.cmd not only build the .msg file(s), but can split or merge index.htm(l) and .css and .js files.
mkpkg /S use index.html to split into index.htm and the other files, while mkpkg /M merge index.htm and the other files into index.html

Perhaps one should look at PDF.js to display PDF's?

A .slize(-3) cause problems... should have been .slice(-3)

You have to drop xul.dll on pmdll to get any info on the linked DLLs.
The could not load xpcom is a horrible error as xpcom.dll is long gone and could have many causes, though usually a DLL that can't be loaded.
Things to try,
Run SeaMonkey -help and see if a closed VIO window appears with the title Completed:SeaMonkey containing the help appears on your desktop.
Run SeaMonkey --ProfileManager to see if the profile manager comes up. If so, create a new test profile and see if that works.
And of course try PMDLL on xul.dll
Can't think of anything else right now besides reinstalling all the prerequisites, which I've forgotten.

Does Seamonkey have the option to start up with/to a Profile Manager (along the lines of what you can do with Firefox using "-ProfileManager" as the command line parameter)?

If it does, at least that approach might narrow things down to either a 'profile issue', or a large application problem.

If that is a no-go, how about the equivalent of FF's "-safe-mode"? Again, same deal, use as a CLI option.

Last but not least, what is the error msg you are seeing right now? Judging by the title of your post it would appear that the app doesn't even start up...

This came as a surprise.
The system was shutdown about 2 weeks ago after running seamonkey happily for a while.
Obviously system and seamonkey have not updated or deleted files while shutdown.
I can only guess that something glitched when seamonkey was last closed.

Your TIFF actually looks somewhat ragged.
Out of curiosity, I converted the TIFF to BMP so SeaMonkey would load it (Firefox too) and printed to file, 2.pdf. Looks much nicer.
