ArcaOS 5.1.2 First Impressions !!
« on: March 09, 2026, 07:04:06 pm »
Hello

Today ArcaOS 5.1.2 was released. I just wanted to know your first impressions if you want to share it.

I will be installing it on VirtualBox first and later on real hardware.

Hello

I did a clean install, my first issue is with ANPM, "Update all".
It gives me an RPM error (Attached). This is not Arca Noae side, it is the Netlabs-rel.

I will report it to https://github.com/bitwiseworks/rpm-issues/issues (If it was not reported already)

The rest seems fine, but I keep testing it.

Hello

For the next release of ArcaOS I want to recommend to adding the /Q switch on the config.sys of these ones
 DEVICE=C:\OS2Additions\VBoxGuest.sys /Q
 IFS=C:\OS2Additions\VBoxSF.ifs /Q
 IFS=C:\Programs\NDFS\NDFS32.IFS /Q
 CALL=C:\sys\apps\ifx\ifx.exe /Q

Please let me know if you think something horrible will happen to do that.

I think I found my issue. The RPM got installed as i686, I don't know what I did wrong on the install procedure. I will need to check on that again.

Hi Martin,

For me the update works fine.
I did not a clean installation but upgraded it from 5.1.1
Everytthing works the normal way except DOS programs.
When you start them, then the system crashes.
Reason unknown, I have to figure that out.

5.1.1 used clock01.sys v10.058 by IBM. 5.1.2 replaces that with v10.200 by ArcaNoae, which apparently has some regressions and has a successor being worked on. DOS sessions were always sensitive to timing and even more so on modern hardware which forces some basic system drivers to get replaced every now and then.

If DOS sessions worked fine for you on 5.1.1 and fail after the upgrade, you might want to try and backlevel clock01.sys, and if that fails open a ticket at ArcaNoae's bug tracker.

Hope this helps.
