Sometime ago I took a long distance class where the requirements were to use WinXX due to the Win centric (Active-X) software application selected by the instructors.  It also required WinXX's Remote Desktop Client (RDC) to access the remote Win2003 Server --and the lab enterprise infrastructure applications executing in that Win environment.

I had to put up with the first condition due to the interactivity necessary with the instructors, but I refused to spend time in an WinXX environment with RDC to access (another) Win2003 server family member. The obvious reason: there were serious issues with the latter, like operating system and target application(s) services necessary not starting up and/or unresponsive when activated manually.  And the not so obvious reason: that "twilight zone" effect of despair inside the Win environment.

The instructors were forced to install an VmWare Win image --with all the pertinent lab software infrastructure-- due to the Win2003 natively installed lab applications not performing as they were intended to have.  I thought to myself, "Yes, add another (virtual) abstraction layer of WinXX as if in real hardware its performance was great."

Since my Linux choice of VNC client did not prove to be an adequate replacement for RDC, I decided to install FreeNX.  Under Debian Linux, the nxdesktop performance was simply marvelous.

I looked around for an OS/2 port of FreeNX and this discussion is all I found.  Anyone knows of any existing (and or attempted) port of the FreeNX for OS/2 ???
