For now, the simplest solution is to have a config.sys for when I use the scanner (rarely, but when i need it, I really need it) and a config.sys that works for ACPI.

As I mentioned somewhere, the only aha152x.add I can get to work is the one that came with eCS. The other one crashes the system (even though it works for OS/2 on the same machine).

Robert, I suppose those are possibilities.

After a few boots, my 30gb JFS drive with apm has stopped booting with similar but not same message: OS/2 can't operate your hard drive. Back to the drawing board. Steve

OK, the issue is over IRQ9. ACPI uses IRQ9, not exclusively, so does AHA152x, but exclusively. 
I now remember from years ago that the scsi adapter only will run on IRQ9, can be reassigned but will not work. Passive/aggressive I guess:)

Anyway, I tried reserve.sys with no luck. FYI, Steve

Eureka! After posting about my success with JFS by not installing ACPI, I tried removing ACPI from my SSD dirve and my scanner worked!

Upon encouraging info on the use of JFS and having some time I tried using it again. Same results when setup with ACPI (i.e., when drive is used in the Ultrabay, it gives the 'driver licensed for eCS, OS/2 cannot operate HD') But when I used the APM setup, I can swap ok. I will keep posted if there is further issue. Steve

There is something fundamentally different between eCS and OS/2 in how they handle Cardbus. OS/2(which works) uses SS2PCIC1.SYS. eCS won't load SS2PCIC1.SYS, chooses and loads IBM2SS14.SYS. Hardware manager looks ok, the same resources are used as OS/2 &SS2PCIC1, except the memory is different for the Cardbus, but Plug and Play for PCMCIA shows that it is Ok. AHA152x.add shows loaded, even when I use an old switch that is no longer supported and boot says it failed to load.When I use the aha152x.add that works with OS/2 on eCS, the system crashes.

Used 3 different versions of aspirout, cannot confirm that is loads with -v switch, but there is no message that is doesn't. The Tame documentation says that aspirout is necessary to make scsi scanners work, and I suspect some zig has been made by eCS that the current editions of aspirout still zag.

Unless any of this triggers an Aha! moment for someone, I think I will abandon.

I would just like confirmation that someone has a USB scanner working on eCS with Tame. Thanks All, Steve

I can get my microtek scsi scanner to work on OS/2 on my T43, using SS2PCIC1 and aspirout. The installation on eCS uses IBMSS14, didn't install aspirout. I installed aspirout, tried the old microtek.conf file, probably a hundred permutations by now.

Hardware Manager shows the Cardbus driver loaded and pcmcia card shows with resources. But nothing happens when I scan. When I use sane-find-scanner it can't find the scanner. There was an item in the information for Tame that made me think that eCS only supports USB scanners.

Does anyone have experience or can enlighten me? Thanks, Steve

Okay, you both were very helpful. I found the router setup menu item that allows assignment of the range of addresses that dhcp uses. Right now it allows 192.168.0.2 to .254. I will experiment with this and other features you discussed when I have more time.

But for now, in eCS rc4, after boot, a window would come up asking you to choose/disable a profile. From what you say, Andi, XWLAN should do that for me now, but it isn't, never has w/ 2.0GA. Can you point me in the direction to get XWLAN (or other) to allow choice of ethernet or wifi on boot?

I'm using eCS 2.0 GA on a TP43p. During install, i used the ethernet connection to the router/modem (actiontec m/q1000). If you read my other post, I finally was able to get wifi (wpa, not wpa2) going. I was able to save doing a lot of reboots by keeping my ethernet connected and accessing the router through it. I enabled lan0 interface, manually, using IP address 192.168.0.2, subnet 255.255.255.0. At the same time I have lan1 enabled using automatic dhcp. I do not have Internet access through the ethernet.

I only have vague notions about what is going on when networking. I have read what I thought necessary on networking, started to read the 140 pages on mpts and realized most of the information did not apply to me, even if I did understand it. You guys have been really helpful, and I don't want to abuse your time, I'm not asking for a primer on networking, although if there were one on tcpip, I would like to get it. My networking needs are confined to Internet access. I don't need or use a network printer or connect with another computer at home.

So,1) Is there a way to switch between ethernet and wifi access without going to the tcpip configuration notebook and rebooting?
2) Accessing the router while testing wifi settings was handy. Did I do this properly? (IP address 192.168.0.2, subnet 255.255.255.0) It appears the IP address for my router is a generic one. If I used another IP address and/or subnet would I be able to get Internet access?
3) I don't understand when dhcp kicks in. Can I avoid using dhcp on the ethernet connection by using a manual address? and what would that address be? Does wifi (xwlan) use dhcp, just not through the dhcp monitor?
4) What is ddns relationship to dhcp? Or, more importantly, do I ever need to do anything with the configuration settings (of DDNS) given my above described operating environment? If I don't need to configure DDNS, I don't need to know its relationship w dhcp)

I was about to abandon this issue when I accessed the router and found I couldn't disable security, although I could go to wep 64 or 128 bit encryption. Checked with intel for firmware updates and got a pdf that stated the PRO2915abg (what is in my T43) will do all the encryptions inc. wpa2 providing the drivers and computer allow for it. Said it uses AES encryption. Then started the reboots to see what might work. Got wpa to work, not wpa2. Took tkip encryption, not AES. Oh well, I'm satisfied. I have some procedure questions to ask under a new topic.

Thanks, Rob, that is almost certainly it. I have the Intell 802.11a/b/g and since 3.10 xwlan supports wpa-2, and shows it in the profile, I 'assumed' that my card had the feature. I would never have figured that out. Thanks for the extra research, I will take it form here and see what I can do. See, that was simple! Steve

Well, helpful folks, I hope this is easy.
I installed eCS 2.0 GA on my T43 and I used the ethernet connection off the router/modem (actiontec q1000) All seemed well (although I did not get a message asking me to choose device/profiles as I did on RC4) until I tried to access my wifi. When I add the profile, xwlan continually says it is configuring the lan (1) (the correct tcpip for the wifi card). I go to the tcpip configuration notebook and disable lan0 (ethernet) and enable lan1 and dhcp for it and reboot, same result. I have tried all the permutations I can think of.

But, I can access the public library's wifi, friends' wifi with lower security than wpa-2. What am I missing? And, as always, thanks for your help. Steve

Well, I have spent considerable time and reboots trying to track this down.
First, on my installs to a hpfs partition, I got pretty aggressive about deleting the templates, using both black hole and unimaint.
It usually takes several passes with unimaint, involving not only uninstall but also deregistering classes, application and keys. I only had one semi-failure, I deregistered the string class, which is used by the search utility. I did succeed once removing templates on one pass, but despite taking some notes, I have been unable to duplicate the process, so I'm unable to post a 'how to', and with this new development I don't even want to make suggestions for fear of unintended consequences.

Second, I proceeded to beat up an install of eCS 2.0 on a 30gb IBM HDD, JFS (unable to update firmware for 2010 error, but otherwise no problems with it) on my T43. Had no hint of trouble until I moved it to the Ultrabay, whereupon I get the ACPI message. I tried to trace the offending driver with an F2 boot numerous times. Seems to get through basedev OK, then whips through the IFS's and crashes so fast I can't see where it goes wrong. Tried slowing down the processor through bios (battery setting), still too fast. I did have success after an ACPI install by changing to  APM before changing HDD position. numerous reboots and experiments lead to ambiguous results. I did conclude that the problem is not in config.sys, in particular ACPI/APM versions, because I was not able to recover using an APM config.sys, yet on a reinstall both the old APM and ACPI config.sys worked fine.

Third, I'm on an install to a JFS partition that I have done all the reorganizing and deleting of unneeded (scsi) files, reming out features I rarely use, everything but deleting Templates and I have had no problem. (I like JFS on the HDD because it boots fast and seems to have better performance) I hopefully will rarely use it so fragmenting should not be an issue.

I theorize that Unimaint was developed before JFS and that in the process of editing heavily the registry (I use the term to mean editing the OS2*.ini files) that it develops a glitch with JFS that doesn't show up immediately. As I write this I recall using Registry Editor also, with similar results. Unimaint has a Class List/ with deregister and force delete options that Registry Editor does not (at least I didn't see it). Maybe this is the source of the bug. The 30gb HDD was used in case the SDD wobbled/failed and to test JFS. So far the Transcend 8gb SLC has performed wonderfully, so I'm going to get on with my life. It's summer time!
FYI, the jumper to master has to be used on the Transcend, which limit its use to the main caddy. At least without some physical modification of the Ultrabay.

Thanks all for your suggestions and experiences. I only tried a restore from backup (unsuccessful) once (hpfs to JFS) and will have to keep in mind your experiences for future backup/ restore operations. Steve

Fortunately, I'm able to post to you from my SSD install off eCS, which went well, is really fast, cool and quiet.

After, the SSD install (used HPFS because of fragmentation and degradation of performance over time concerns) I backed up my main install, which is on a 30Gb single partition JFS HDD. I put it in the ultrabay to see if it still had a file I needed for my SSD. It would get down to where it loads ACPI v3.18 and then gives the 'licensed only for eCS, OS/2 can't operate your disk' message.
I tried it in the caddy (T43), same result. I can access it as D: in the Ultrabay, tried copying ACPI/APM files from my SSD, checked config.sys for errors, rems, restored from backup, same message. Checked the drive with chkdsk, DFSee, nothing obviously wrong. I had this problem several times w/RC4, once I had rem'd out a necessary driver, the other times I had to reload.
I just had this working perfectly, started it for my everyday use. I was so close to being done with installs and experiments. I thought I had beat up the system every way I was likely to. I'm blocked short of at new install and transfer of personal files. Does anyone know the problem or have a suggestion? TIA, Steve

asch, that worked great. Deleting/ rem'ing the floppy drivers will not eliminate A and B.
