Title: OS/2 under VMware 5.5.1
Post by: Spip5 on 2008.04.25, 11:09:00
Hi all,

I'm trying to install OS/2 Warp 4.52 under VMWare Workstation 5.5.1 but I have some problems.

I discovered here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS/2#Virtualization) that we should modify a line into the .vmx file corresponding to my virtual machine. I did it.

Though i'm having the following error:
(http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/4412/vmwaretz0.th.jpg) (http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vmwaretz0.jpg)

Do you know why I'm having this message ?

Let me precise that the installation under Virtual PC works fine.

Might it be because my VMWare version is too recent (i have the 5.5.1, not the 5.5 as indicated in the wikipedia page I just linked) ?

Thanks by advance for your responses.

There was a May 2000 OS/2 eZine  article, "First Looks: VMWare 3 Beta"...

http://www.os2ezine.com/v5n1/vmware3.html (http://www.os2ezine.com/v5n1/vmware3.html)

The June 2001 OS/2 eZine says VMWare support for OS/2 as a guest O.S. had stopped...

Yes, VMWARE no more supports OS/2 nor eCS.
OS/2 works under VPC2004 or VPC2007 etc..

Reportedly, it looks as if VMWare is not a reliable VM to run OS/2 into.  You may want to read this report by Michael Necasek:
