| Hi all. I have just joined this one. Thomas, please can you explain if you are accepting suggestions for the Dialog at this stage? If so, may I suggest that you look at the old XFile dialog replacement - it got many things right (for a text dialog), and I still use it here. Or are you waiting for the Bounty to reach the required amount for development to start? Can you please tell us what the requred amount is?

| Hello all, well, I'm not going to develop anything. I'm just the sponsor (the only one up to now, but someone else also was interested in sponsoring some amount, but he has no paypal account...) As for suggestions: Yes, come on and bring them in! I don't know the XFile dialogs. Never heard of that. Is that something like xworkplace's extensions? Where can I download that to take a look? What I actually want is a new open/save dialog with: That's my wish list. If I find the time tonight, I'll do an "analysis" of the standard os2/eCS dialog with its drawbacks and post it here so everyone should understand what I'm talking about. Thanks for your support and interest! |

| Hi Thomas, just a few things to keep in mind (IMHO):
This really does not belong to a file open/save dialog. This should be implemented as a subclass of the drop-down list PM control. There are already at least a couple programs that implement this feature: one is the AMouse mouse driver, the other is NPSWPS.
This would really be great. I think this should be implemented as a generic interface for plugins to the dialog, so that other developers could add previews for the most diverse types of files without having to reimplement the whole thing.
Also this does not belong to the file open/save dialog. It is a more deeper problem in OS/2 when the file name has multiple dots (if I understand what you're asking). XWP already tried to fix this, and I really liked the way its extended associations worked... but unfortunately it introduces bad incompatibilities. Hope this helps! BTW, there is a discussion thread in the eCS mailing list.. there is a developer which is undertaking the job (don't remember his name right now). I pointed him to this bounty, but he didn't want to jump in here. Bye Cris |

You are absolutely right.
Good idea! A "preview plugin" would be a great!!
...yes, that was the point.
...he doesn't need to jump in. If he finishes the task, he simply needs to claim the bounty - that's it. Greetings |

| Here's a link to x-file at bmtmicro. I've used it for years. Neat package - It does everything I need. http://www.bmtmicro.com/BMTCatalog/os2/xfile.html

I've been using it for years too, but I have a few complaints with it. - It doesn't preview, - you can't make multi-tiered directories, - you can't adjust the width - it's a bit on the ugly side, - You only get a file list of its own construction; no icon views, details or anything WPS. - You can't alias favourite directories. That is to say that you can't name I:\This\is\a\long\directory\change\me\temp ...and a few other things that slip my mind right now.
