Being anal-retentive when it comes to spelling and grammar, I've noticed a fair amount of spelling errors and bad grammar in general on some of the various notices and official OS2World.com postings on the site. I just wanted to mention this, as IMO it kind of takes away from the professionalism of the site overall. Please don't take this the wrong way! I imagine that OS2world.com is more a labor of love than a money-making business, and I really, really appreciate having a site that I can count on being updated constantly, showing that there's still life left in OS/2 in spite of IBM's handling of our favorite operating-system. But I felt it was important nonetheless to at least mention this in passing. Gregory L. Marx chekmarx@gmail.com |

Especially leaving out the 'u' in words like 'Favourite' and 'Colour'... Stuart Spelling words like Mr. Johnson wrote them, not Mr. Webster |

| I hear what you say and I will check my own posting a bit extra and agree as well with what you say. Might mention that I´m using a Germany keyboard layout currently and it´s damn hard to write on it when used to Swedish keyboard layout. |

http://www.m-w.com/ I checked the spelling of those words at the Meriam Webster online dictionary. It is a nice site to check the spelling of words.

Something to remember is that for many posters on here, English is not their native tongue and English's grammar and spelling might not be as easy to them as it is to us native speakers. Also, as was pointed out, there's those using American and Queen's English...there's that "u" and "e" thing going on... As long as we can all get the jist of things, I don't think there's a problem in a few misspellings and grammatical errors. God forbid we start using "LOL" and "r u thr?" on here. Now /that/ is something that I'd get upset about. However, I do agree that generally, the postings on here are of a much higher caliber than the other 99% of the Internet/WWW. Ever read USENET lately? It's horrific. :> |

I agree with Hausmaus ! My native language isn't English too !! No one needs to pick and point to somebody others mistake !!!Well, if a facts isn't correct ... ... it should be discussed in a honest and fair manner !! In my eyes: this topic isn't ! We do not need such postings ! |

| As already noted, English in whichever flavour is not native to all. Additionally those who live in glass houses ...etc., where did Greg find the phrase "ever comes to total fruitation" used in a different post on this site?? Perhaps, fruition may be correct. |

| Hi All May be worth noting that Gregory was not moaning about forum posts but "on some of the various notices and official OS2World.com postings on the site". So I do not think that anyone should worry about their ability to use English accurately in their posts - apart from maybe the native English (of whatever variation) speakers with their various spelling and grammar differences As long as someone can work out what the message means there is a chance of a response I also understand that a site mainainer is Swedish, using a German keyboard layout to type in English - Give a Guy a Break Gregory I think that while it is great to read correct English (preferably English_English) on lots of websites I'll happily put up with not quite correct grammar and spelling (even English_American rather than struggle to get the gist of a webpage/article/posting by running it through something like BabelFish translator. Have Fun Pete |
