| Some additional information about the task to develop driver and questions that have been raised via e-mail. The reader itself is really plain simple stupid hardware with no logical at all. So my guess (and I'm just guessing here now) is that a driver for GemPlus card reader should be able to pick up other cards and it might even be that it could be a universal driver. As well, worth mentioning is that I have also tested to attach a GemPlus 430 USB-card reader that without any problems was reported correctly by the USB-Manager. So it might be that this drivers as well could interface with USB based card readers. This all together with GnuPG for the encryption part. Also, are there more devices that there might be interest of to be tested or to be used? I would be able to provide with GemPlus PC400 hardware to testing. |

Still Interest in a driver for this ? And what application-API should be provided (CT-API ?)I still have some CT-API code samples laying around for normal serial port Card readers (Cherry, Siemens-B1 etc) as well as for a GP-410 reader. |

Yes, I think so. I want a driver for a PC Card solution since laptops are the future and most models don't have serial ports anymore. For a Windows desktop system I use a dedicated 3,5 " bay from Gemplus that is attached to internal USB on the motherboard. For professional use in an office I would prefere a keyboard with a slot for cards. The problem is that they are quite expensive compared to normal keyboards. After all I still want a solution for eCS! //bjorso |
