1. UART Trap? |
|
|
| I was able to install the new board. I no longer get a keyboard error/not found message. It boots to the hard drive and stops after loading the SDD. When I press CTL-ALT-DEL to reboot, it shows a trap message. At the top it shows that it is a UART problem or error in it. Just when I solve one problem, I run into another. Would using the AGP video card that I had before make a difference? I am using the on board video and onboard audio. I will try to use the AGP video card to see if it makes a difference. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi BigWarpGuy, You might want to try un remming the following line in config.sys (if you are using ECS) to see if that helps.cytan REM Begin SIOECS REM Un-rem next line if you experience traps in SIO2K.SYS when shutting down via Ctrl-Alt-Del DEVICE=E:\eCS\boot\unbhsio.sys

VIA chipsets seem to have USB interupt problems with the on board soundcard.. Diasabling the soundcard could help. Chris. |

| Thanks. I will give both a try. It is truly appreciated. With my computer being down so long, it is like a geek version of a Greek tragedy.

I tried both; one at a time. Now I am back online. I still have to install programs and drivers (audio drivers and get more colors and higher densities). I am a happy camper. Thanks for the help. It is appreciated.

| I thought I would mention my experience with the EPIA-M miniITX mobo. I had the same error while installing eCS 1.1 last year. SIO isn't the problem as I had discovered. In hind sight, perhaps I might have been wrong. However, I discovered by going with VGA as the default video, and then downloading the Scitech video driver, all was well. I was never able to get sound working. Please let me know if you do. Also, for the Scitech driver, I used VBE mode as the S3 chipset was not on the list of supported list. VBE mode allows for multiple resolutions and is decent for what I do. The miniITX isn't a gaming platform, as selecting WXP Windows XP), and running UT2003 (Unreal Tournement 2003) is a miserable experience of dropped frame rates. Best of luck and keep us posted. |
