1. Thinkpad T21 and eCS 1.1 and DHCP? |
|
|
I installed eCS 1.1 onto my Thinkpad T21. It has a builtin network port. It stops at bootup to show DHCP does not find any settings but will work in the background (could this 'working in the background be what causes it to have 44% usage of cpu? -also asked in hardware). Is there a way to have it not stop the booting process when it does not get the DHCP settings? I don't mind it working in the background but it would be nice if it would continue to boot without stopping.

| Hi, the file setup.cmd in \mptn\bin can be changed to contain an errorlevel check for the dhcpstrt call like: ... dhcpstrt -d 10 -i lan0 if errorlevel 1 goto EXIT ... :EXIT echo DHCP failed This will make dhcpstrt initialize interface 0 (the first) and wait 10 seconds for a reply. If that doesn't work, the errorlevel variable is set and can be queried. If the information here doesn't work or doesn't help, mail us your \mptn\bin\setup.cmd and I'll give you the edited version back in exchange. Hope this helps. Greetings Thomas |

| This isn't really an error and it is unlikely to be causing a problem with CPU usage. The message means that the DHCP client didn't get a reply from a DHCP server in the default wait period. It then says it will continue to do this in the background. If you don't have a DHCP server available (your own, your ISP or otherwise on the network), then when the booting is finished, you should reconfigure TCP/IP to not go looking. If you are expecting to find one, then change the delay parameter as Thomas suggested (I think I used 5 seconds). As to stopping the pause, I can't remember whether I edited the setup.cmd to stop this, or adding "PAUSEONERROR=NO" to config.sys stopped it happening. I can't check at the moment as I don't have my OS/2 laptop with me. But, a search of this forum system shows your question has been asked before, and this was the answer.

It is a T23 and not a T21.

The only effect that will have on the message you are seeing is if the wrong the network card drivers were installed. In that case, there would be errors earlier in the boot.

Which cpu monitor is giving you that 44% usage? Some laptops when run under battery power will show a cpu usage since the bios will automatically throttle the processor while under battery power, my old 390E did this w/ Warp4 |

It turned out to be the power settings. Once it was changed to bios only, the cpu usage dropped to less than 1%.
