1. DVD software for OS/2 or eCS? |
|
|
| Does anyone know of any software packages that can be used in OS/2 or eCS to watch DVD movies? This is the one thing that is holding me back from eliminating Windoze off of my desktop computer. Shadallark (aka FurFuznel)

| Well there is WarpVision among other that now really works well to watch both mpeg2 and DivX so it should work with DVD-movies as well. But, please correct me if I'm wrong! For more info regarding WarpVision, click here. /Kim |

Well, I downloaded WarpVision and gave it a try... but it will not play my DVDs for me. When it attempts to open a DVD it gives the following error: Error starting DVD play. Check DVD settings and make sure that you have a DVD disk in the drive.I have tried three different DVDs but none of them will work for me. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong? Shadallark

last updated at 18 Nov, 2002 18:41 (1 times) hmm ok, so it tried to play. Check the release info since some bugs has been fixed introducing new, ie meaning that in one release everything worked fine and in the next I had some sync problems. So it can be worth checking around for earlier releases to make sure. Also, if you locate the .VOB files directly yourself and tries to open them how does that work out? Please also check this thread for more info and might be that Tom has some ideas since I don't have any DVD-ROM in my current system. /Kim |

| If I add the .vob files to the play list it will play the opening title one but not any of the others and not with sound currently. I am going to reinstall my sound driver and warp vision and see if that fixes anything. Thanks for the suggestions. Shadallark

Have you tried to right click on the title bar to use the load feature? Have you tried to go to the location/directory of the movie to see if it is seen by the program?

| I tried using the Load VCD/DVD command from the pop up menu but it keeps telling me that there is an error with the DVD settings or no DVD in the drive. I am not sure if this is the same thing as what you suggested, so I will give your suggestions a try when I get home tonight. Shadallark

| Actually, thanks to an article published in this month's (March's) V.O.I.C.E. newsletter I was able to get WarpVision (from January 17th, 2003) to play DVDs! YEAH!.... but... I cannot get it to play sound! BOO! I am not sure if it is not finding my audio card or if there is a setting incorrect on the Audio tab of the WarpVision settings notebook. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am running an IBM Aptiva AMD K-6 500 MHz, with a Crystal Audio SoundCard, and an IDE DVD player. Shadallark

| Above the load dvd/vcd, is an option to load media (which one can use browse to located the disc in the dvd drive) and click on it. PS WarpVision is still be worked on. The site is updated on a regular basis (something not really done with other movie players for OS/2).
OS/2 Warp-ed to the very end.
