I was wondering if an animated gif could be made into a Doodle screensave and if so, where the information can be found.

There is a 'show image' option in the list of screen savers. Could one use a .gif (animated?) as an image? I tried an animated gif with it and tried it but nothing showed.

Hi bigWarpGuy

Looking at the code, and believe me, I am no programmer, it appears that the screensavers use bitmaps (guessing OS/2 bitmaps).

The reason I asked about animated gifs is that it would it would be nice if one could just replace animated gifs in the code to made different screensavers. Use the same code, but replace one gif for another.

I looked at the code, but as I said, I am no programmer. To use an animated gif, one would probably need to separate each image in the code and convert each to OS/2 bitmaps and then somehow manage to get the code to read each bitmap in the order needed. This is a lot of work when it would be so easy to use an animated gif, if it is possible in code this in eCS.

My guess is that you'll have to extract each frame from the animated GIF, convert them into BMP and then insert them into the screensaver that way.

Okay, I extracted the images (20 in all) and converted them into 256 color OS/2 bitmaps. I did the images in 800x600 thinking that that would be a safe resolution for most computers.

Anyone want to try to make them into a Doodle screensaver. Whoever does the first saver and it works enables the next persion to use the same code substituting those images for the new ones.

Or if you don't care to do an eCS screensaver, but an OS/2 warp screensaver, then try these bitmaps. Again there are 20 -256 color 800x600 OS/2 bitmaps.

When I clicked on browse to find a photo image file, it showed more than just .bmp files. This is why I thought it would work. It did not and you explained why. Thanks for the information.
