There is a new disk drive that uses quarter size diskettes that store 500 meg on them. The web site is http://www.dataplay.com (IIRC). Is there (or will there) OS/2 drivers for it?

Won't work since You need specific drivers for the unit. But, it looked rather nice since of the small units.

When it comes to storage I'm waiting for the prices to drop down enough on the DVD-Burners. Price is currently to high, guess it's around $500. I would say when price is around $250-$300 I'm going to upgrade to one!

When the faster dvd burners come out, the old(er) ones will come down in price. CDRW drives are very inexpensive since DVD burners have come out. CD-rom drives are really low in price (especially if one goes to a computer show/sale). My computers aren't on the cutting edge but I don't mind since following just behind it is way more affordable.

Main reason for me to get a DVDR unit is that I have a Hauppauge Personal Video Recorder board (PVR). It's a TV-board but also includes MPEG2 encoder chip. So as most boards does today when recording video it saves in the AVI format. With this board I'm able to record directly to mpeg2. It still takes some space thought so a normal CD gives me inaround 60 min of video if I convert it to mpeg4 (DivX). Using S-VCD a normal CD only holds around 30 min. Since of the card low pricefor a mpeg2 encoding the VCD is not that good. So mostly what I do is that I record Mpeg2 in 12MB datarate and then encode it to Mpeg4. But, having a DVD-R unit would allow me to make DVD with S-VCD that can be played directly in my Pioneer DVD-player. Aha!

It won't be easy to find a dvdr since they are conflicting standards (IIRC). Some are DVD-RAM , some are DVDR and others are DVD-RW and I think there are a couple of others. I don't know if one can be used with another (it would simplify things if they did). When the newer and faster recordable DVD drives come out, the older ones will come down in price. (IMHO).

Both HP and Plextor has released DVD-burners that supports both DVD-R and DVD-RW and both formats are supported in the most new consumer DVDs. So the future looks really good actually for this idea of recording media on your computer and then burn it out on DVDs.

Eventually home movies will be on a dvd (this could signal the end of vhs [this might take place if there isn't a machine that uses the dvdr's like the vcrs are being used ).

Have you looked at Philips DVDR985 unit ? Here is a quote from Philips homepage "Philips DVD Recorders allow consumers to quickly and easily transfer their most special moments from a camcorder to the DVD Recorder, and record on a DVD+R or DVD+RW disc, depending on the need of the consumer. ".
