1. OS2 UpdCD distro |
|
|
| A question that comes up over and over again from new users of OS2 and as well for old users is where would one find a complete distro of OS2 drivers, utilities and other systems tools to enhance OS2. But, since we already have UpdCD to be used to create new CDs with the latest FP for OS2, wouldn't it be possible to use the same tool to include other software as well? I would say that this would be of high interest for rather many OS2 users. Would this be something worth spending some time and effort on to create a great OS2 Software distro? /Kim |

| Agree, for the few newbies it too hard to find proper software to use under OS2. So this suggestions is a great idea and using UpdCD or WarpIn wouldn't matter as long the user gets proper interface to choose from. /zn |

| Well, it's been thought of before. There was the OSK (OS/2 Starter Kit) project, but it never got very far due to lack of contributors. |

| In what way was there lack of contributors? Lack of software or lack of manpower to fullfill the project? Also I can't really recall the project at all was it long ago? /Kim |

| Well, we just have to find the Start Kit and check it out. If that didn't work we can make a better package this time. Using UpdCD sound like a great idea. I wonder if Martin have figured out if it UpdCD can be used or not. /Kim |

Definitely lack of manpower. Back in 1999 at Warpstock Europe in Bochum, they were working on it. See http://osk.netlabs.org/ and http://en.os2.org/projects/osk/. |

the updatecd program was - fairly recently - updated. I downloaded it from the discussion group at groups.yahoo.com (but have not tried it yet).

| A while ago Zsolt Kadar helped Team OS/2 Ruhr (a local user group in Germany) to create a CD with it. Works fine. Meanwhile it is also able to install Netscape, Java and several drivers. |
