| Hi all. I drifted away from eCS when I realized that CorelDraw cut the amount of time it took for me to do my comic in half, at the most. CorelDraw allowed me to create the comic using one application -- before that I was using Photo>Graphics for the drawing, Embellish for inserting the text, and PMView for scaling and cropping the comic. So I was just wondering if maybe something had changed on the graphics design applicatioin scene in eCS/OS/2-land. Are there any decent applications out there? I'm currently using Inkscape on Linux, which is a pretty good vector app that uses the SVG format. I need an app that can, at the very least, allow you to: - change line width on the fly Any thoughts? |

| All the thing you need can be done in Photo>Graphics ( - change line width on the fly - handle both bezier lines and "freehand" lines - convert straight lines into bezier curves) Am I wrong? |

I need to add "handles text in a reasonable manner" to the list, then. That was why I stopped using P>G in the first place -- it's great for drawing, lousy for text. ![]() |

| Try pmdraw (should be available from hobbes.) If you like xfig, you'll like pmdraw. |

| While we are in this subject, are there any Framemaker-like apps for os/2? |

| For vector drawing stuff, I use a combination of: - OpenOffice - Lotus Freelance - Photo>Graphics - XACT (incredibly expensive, but it is a scientific plotting tool. It's just a bonus that a good vector drawing app comes with it. BTW expensive, but on-par, or even a bit cheaper, than competitive software). DrawIt is pretty okay. The author is seeing little response so I think development has stalled. If you try it and like it ... buy it! That's the only way to get software going.
If you just want to accomplish the same task, many word processors nowadays will easily get the job done. Maybe even more easily. e.g. WordPro and OpenOffice. The question really is what does FrameMaker buy you that a word-processor does not? My opinion right now is that, properly used, there is not much difference. |

| http://www.kanzelsberger.com/pixel/?page_id=12 Not sure if this is vector drawing (Pixel) but it is being ported to OS/2 now and as it handles freetype fonts I guess it does text. It is shareware with an eComStation version demo available. Andy |
