What about the latest Gwinn SIO drivers, isn't there support for some PCI based modems? I would suggest that you take a lookse at the SIO drivers.

I will. Thans for the information. I have a PCI modem in my computer but it is not detected (not by the dialer from http://www.attglobal.net - they bought the isp service from IBM). I tried it once and it froze up the computer/dialer program.

Regarding your modem is it WinModem or a true PCI modem board? Just in case if you missed the posting about the Lucent Win modem by Timo:

Beta V.90 Lucent Winmodem driver - 10/09/02 @ 06:39

From: tam@gmx.de (Timo Maier)

OS/2 driver for Lucent PCI soft modems, updated to support V.90. Use at -v90=23 to enable V90 (value can range from 0 to 23)

I have installed the sio drivers from http://hobbes.nmsu.edu (but the latest one seems to be a couple of years old). It detects four com ports with two having uart. I tried to get into the settings for the AT&T Global Dialer for OS/2 but it does not come up. The sio drivers from hobbes appear in the hardware management list.

I am not sure if it is a true pci modem or a Winmodem. It is not listed in the hardware management list.

PS at bootup, it shows the sio drivers. It shows it as being unregistered. Can one still register it? It shows an error (something to do with Win32k).

I followed the link at http://hobbes.nmsu.edu for the sio drivers. The url is http://www.qwuinns.com (or http://www.gwinn.com ? IIRC on the url). Hobbes has the sio driver date of 12-2001 but the web site has a newer sio driver with a date of 06-2002. It has both the link to download it and the link to register it (at least $31 (or was it $35?).

I installed the sio driver from Gwinns site (the newer version dated 06-2002). I am having problems with the dialer from the AT&T Global Network since I can not get the settings notebook to open (it sort of opens but it goes to some unseen place). I have to use 'ctl esc' to close it otherwise it stays 'open'. I have reinstalled it but with the same result. I am thinking of using some other dialer to see if it can detect the pci modem. Is there any recommendations?

I downloaded the lucent drivers. In the readme it says it is for the mini-pci of the Thinkpad (unless I downloaded the wrong file). Will it still work with the pci modem of desktop computers or just for Thinkpads?

I have installed the lucent pci modem drivers from the hobbes site. I also downloaded a couple of programs that detect pci cards and show their information. I also installed th Gwinn sio drivers (the Gwinn site had the latest drivers). The lucent drivers detect the card. It shows up in hardware manager. The setup in the dialer from ATTGlobalNetwork for OS/2 had trouble detecting it. I changed the com settings to 3 (since it seem to have shown it somewhere but I forget where). It tries to dial out (I hear it dialing and trying to conect) but it has problems (sigh). fortunately I still have my external modem.

Would it work better with the original sio drivers from Warp/IBM than the ones from GWINN?

No, Gwinns drivers are far better than IBMs. But, have you checked with Gwinn regarding the hardware support and his drivers?

I downloaded the Gwinn and registered the SIO drivers. I installed them. They helped the dialer from ATTGlobalNetwork detect the Actiontec PCI modem. It works great.
