| How are you actiually connected to the new, ie ADSL-modem/router, etc? If you can provide some info on the hardware you using to connect it's a bit easier to help you out. /Kim |

| There is a PPPoE client at http://www.fx.dk/products.html There is another client available but I'm not sure of the address, perhaps you could try Google. |

SafeFire PPP from Link Guard Solutions also does PPPoE http://www.lgs.kiev.ua And works fine in Warp 4 |

| Why poking around with OS-dependand software ? Get (as they got really cheap now) an ADSL capable router with switch (if you like already with WLAN or with Printer Port), then you get ADSL access for any OS, can use up to 255 Computers, get an integrated firewall ... Some (not all) Routers need Win (or Mac) to update their firmware. Have a look on that if you don't have such. |

| Well, agree with devnul and that was where I wanted to point you. I'm currently using a D-Link 624+ that combinates ADSL modem, router, switch and wlan within one unit. So with this you can connect 4 system via 10/100mbit connection or if you want using the 22mbit wlan connection. Since all configuration is done within the 624+ you won't have any need for any kind of PPPoE client. All you need to do is to config your workstation using internal IPs. /Kim |

There are many, personally I've good experiences with Zyxel (sometime hard to setup, but in worst case scenarios you can connect via serial cable and telnet to administrate, update), Draytek (these need Win/Mac for updating the firmware) and Devolo (a cheap one, I've paid <50Eur, but satiesfying for home, small business) . Normal Administration (=setup) is done in all cases via Web-Browser. |

| Do, now i have a router with a ADSL Setup inside. my Setup is ok, it run on Mac/Windows and Linux really fine. What i need to do to setup my OS/2 for supporting my Router? Kim said that i need to setup OS/2 to support internal IP? What is this? Auto-detecting IP? I have a Static IP Address. my computer IP is in 192.168.1.1xx my router have my Static IP 68.158.xxx.xxx So.. does i need to setup something to use Internet with OS/2? or i need only to start my computer and enjoy! Thanks for your help! |

last updated at 18 Jun, 2004 19:10 (1 times) There is 3 things that you need to config within the OS2 TCP/IP stack:1) A static IP, for example 192.168.1.101 (if you prefer static ip) for the workstation itself. 2) You need to tell the the OS2 workstation your routers internal IP. This is to be used for the router configuration within the TCP/IP. 3) The dns server you got from your ISP. Also if the router has been set up with the proper dns and it's supports dns caching or forwarding you would point to the router instead. |

| For the workstation to find the way out to the internet it needs to know the routers internal IP, ie 192.168.1.xxx. If you have not changed the out of the box configuration my guess is that it's either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254. Curious, but what hardware are you running with when it comes to the ADSL-modem/router? |

| Januq One thing to think about when you get your new ADSL router - MTU/MRU size. Change the MTU either within OS2 (tcpcfg2) default is 1500, this may be to large for your routers default settings. Or telnet into your router and alter it there for IP & pppoa(if doing it at the router then increase the size the max values will differ depending on the manufacturer of the router - on mine I have settings in some areas of 8192, and in others 16kb) Prior to me doing this I had some very poor access to most websites, it was never to outgoing packets that had a problem, always the returning packets. And my web queries would invariably "time out" Jos |
