Looks like netlabs is pretty much on the outs, the site is about as functional as an bathroom at a lower east side bar in nyc. Sad that they took a useful site and made it into.. umm.. that. Oh yeah.. and OS2world's server hasn't been working right in over a week.

yeah yeah... something new and different is not easy for some people...
Just be patient and open and get used to it, its not that bad.
Taste is not discussable at least.
Its modern and probably a lot easier to maintain. so what.. they still do a great job all and all.

Your quite the "Drama Queen" Sebadoh.

I find the new site quite useable already, and much faster than the old site. It can use some tweaks, but then again, it is new. Netlabs is doing some great work for the community, and YOU, as well as all OS/2 users, are reaping the benefits.

You are of course free to volunteer your free time and sweat, (as so many other Netlab folks have) and help to improve Netlabs, and the site. Or you can just whine about it here.

This isn't an issue of taste.. this is the fact that the site simply does not work.

It is useless.. Contains no information, nothing is categorized and most of the links are broken. That should never have been brought live until it was completed. It is nothing about being a drama queen. Everything is about perception. As a community of users when are largest collaboration and independent development site becomes a completely broken mess of non-information then there is a perception problem.

If this was a 1 week thing or a 2 week thing that is a complete different issue. But the site is seriously broken and has been for over a month.

You know, yes.. I could volunteer time to fixing it.. but then again, I wasn't the one who broke it.

It seems to be working now. I tried some links and they work (so far). Which linkds did not work?

It looks pretty good; imo. The background stays the sameeven thoughone is scrolling the page down.

Regretably I share Sebadoh's frustration with the new Netlabs site. It is in many cases harder to find information than on the old site, but that's a sign that it isn't finished, not that it is soon to die. The reason it persists in this state is because, as has been advertised, Adrian is on a long, but deserved vacation. It is unfortunate the new site was not completed before he left, but that happens sometimes with these things.

Where I differ with Sebadoh is I completely forgive Adrian and Netlabs, and am wholly appreciative that it is even there. The reason for that is that I have also let Adrian down on things he hoped I would complete. Yet I still do use the site regularly. So how could I possibly hold it against him that he fell a little short when he's already giving so much and it benefits me?

That's the way it works. When you volunteer and contribute, you will disappoint sometimes. If you contribute nothing, nobody can complain about you.

Which approach is better for the community? We should all do that.

I've had no problems with OS/2 World. However, I was unable to access netlabs.org.

On a side note, I've noticed that the majority of your posts have a negative attitude. Cheer up a little and try to be more positive ... maybe help contribute to the community.

Heh.. I'm actually not being negative... I was just pissed because I was looking for a file which I then ended up having the navigate the increasingly slower ftp site at netlabs.org because the links were broken on the site. It is great that they are updating it, and it looks as though they are creating a fairly bandwith conservative site (if they're paying for the bandwith this makes sense). But from a user point of view the site should never have been made public until it was close to finished.

As far OS2world.com. I am guessing there is a bad router between my cable network and os2world's servers. I am getting very high latencies trying to connect to the site. Everything works.. just very slowly. =)

Anyway.. I was just having a little fun at netlabs expense and pointing out from the user perspective that it doesn't show the community in the best light when our largest independent developer site doesn't even work right. (I hear from people at work all the time about it actually) hehe.

I'm sure the netlabs people are really grateful for your little fun and are still hard at laughing...

Imho the site perfectly reflects the current state of affairs with regard to the OS/2 community. Adrian several times asked for support but few if any people cared to offer any. Each page with broken links shows that for that page a maintainer is missing.

BTW the following

You know, yes.. I could volunteer time to fixing it.. but then again, I wasn't the one who broke it.

can easily be paraphrased into

"You know, yes.. I could volunteer time to create WLAN drivers.. but then again, I'm not the one needing them."

Feel free to exchange WLAN with

-gcc
-libc
-DSS
-Voyager
-WarpVision
-Uniaud
-...

This attitude of flaming others, treating the few remaining devs as code monkeys owing something to someone, freeloading without giving back anything will kill OS/2 in the end. It's not IBM who did...

What kind of errors have you been having for over a week?! Since the system hasn't shown any problems here on my side, so I would like to know what kind of issues you've been having.

It's very easy to complain and / or critisize !!!
It's not very easy to provide a better solution !!!

BTW:
Haven't you read that Adrian has taken off for his big journey ?

He has done a super job to the OS/2 community and
deserves his off resp. vacation time !

So let him enjoy his vacation to get back to us with new energy and power ...
... and let's hope he will return and continue to our community !!

Especially with such demotivating and destructive comments he may decide to
stay any longer or for ever in one of the beautiful countries he's visiting now !?

Hava cool time Adrian and
you boys stay more cool too.

I agree for the most part. However, I'm maintaining the WarpIN and XWorkplace pages and there hasn't been any introduction to the new admin interface whatsoever. In fact, I don't even have access. To be honest, I was somewhat put off when I discovered this. On the other hand, I can understand it. First, shit happens, especially when you are occupied with many other things. And second, if you do something for the "OS/2 community" you develop an "it won't get done unless you do it yourself" attitude after a while.

So many people are using it every day that they probably didn't notice that it is broken. Yes, the main page is broken. And, the working parts are all working better than ever.

Until the main page is fixed,

svn.netlabs.org
xtracker.netlabs.org
ftp.netlabs.org

are all working.

Anyone needing a file can go straight to the files section and download from there.

Hi All (to those providing links to netlabs),

Thanks! I guess I am so dependent on Google, I forget about other options. Quite often, I usually type something like "site:netlabs.org camera" (if looking for camera) in the Google web page.
