1. Emulator for Scientific Programs |

Hi! Very much often a whole bunch of people in the lab need a program that runs only under OS/2. It wouldn't be big problem because we have an OS/2 system but my problem is, that it is really hard to use it whenever you want to. The hook is, if an analytical application is running nobody can use the system to evaluate his results. Because I have no idea if there is sth. like an emulator for the whole system available or not I post it here. There is no time for me to find it out. It would be great if anybody has a program proposal. Thanks!

Ummm, you can always install more copies on other PCs and dual boot. I think we need more details about what you want. cytan.

Agree wuth Cytan; if you have PC all around at your location you could use for example Symantec Ghost to clone the existing OS2 installation that you have and install Air-Boot to have an easy access to switch system.

Its a pretty old system that runs OS2 at the moment. We need it for our LICOR sequencer in molecular genetics. I thought, there might be the possibility to emulate the os2 environment under windows xp i.e. and work with the special program on that system. I'm not so fond of the idea to install a third system on my HDD. First I wanted to check out if there is another possibilty. If not, okay, I have to.

What version of os/2 does your program require? Windows NT used to be able to run os/2 1.x (16 bit) programs. Windows xp is based on the same kernel as windows nt, but I'm not sure if xp has the capibility to run os/2 1.x programs. Otherwise, you could always get one of the pc emulator (like ms vpc) programs and install os/2 in a virtual computer.
