Hi all, I'd like to buy a multifunction printer (one of those printers including scanner, copier, etc.), but I'm unsure about support under OS/2. Is there anybody using one such printer? Anybody satisfied?Thankyou Bye Cris |

| One will probably have to use different programs for different functions of the multipurpose printer; driver for the printer, sane for the scanner. I have a Lexmark mulitpurpose printer; printer, scanner, copier. It is software driven (one has to have it connected to a Win pc to work). I have not tried it with a eCS pc. Once I have upgraded to 1.2, I will give it a try with my Thinkpad T23 with eCS 1.2. I will return with the results.

| Hi Cris I did see an Epson RX620 mentioned in the os2uk list about a year ago that worked as printer, scanner and, I think, the builtin cardreader was also useable. I think the drivers mentioned were Epson Omni C60 and Tame - you also need to make sure that usb configuration is correct to be able to access the device(s) at all. This usb configuration app may help http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/system/usbcfgb7a.zip Not sure whether the RX620 is still available. If it is not then your biggest problem could well be finding suitable printer drivers to work with whatever model you do get. I have seen posts about creating postscript drivers for printers to get around the lack of manufacturer drivers but that seems to apply mainly to laser printers rather than inkjets. Hope you find something that works. Pete |

| I'm using an Brother MFC-6550MC/7550MC driver for printing through the SLPR driver on my Brother MFC-7820N LAN printer. Actually printing works a bit better than when using the Brother software under WinXP. But the scanner nor the fax works, only the printer function - and my guess is that thats all you'll get with native drivers. Try taking a look at the WIN32PRN project, that is your only hope. |

Where did you see the post on creating your own post script drivers? It would be nice to see if one can create drivers for the HP Color LaserJet 1600 or the Lexmark allinone (if it does not work with any current OS/2-eCS drivers).

Hi Sorry, you will have to use Google to search the os2 newsgroups for specific info on the process... If I understand it you need a *.ppd file for your printer - not many inkjets seem to have 1 of those supplied with the windows drivers - and you also need pin.exe somewhere on your system. If you have pin.exe try running it in a command line window and it will show expected parameters - looks like it should update pscript.drv with the data in the *.ppd file. Hope that helps a little Pete |

I got a Canon MP780. It seems to work fine as a printer. The photo-quality is not that great (since it uses an older model Canon printer for that), but otherwise it is fine.Don't expect to use it for scanning or anything else though. |

I use the Brother 7820N as an slpr printer. I updated the driver with the ppd files from the windows driver. In order to use the scanner I have to use VPC, there is a driver to work on linux with SANE but Brother releases binary only. I wrote to them asking for the code but got no response. Here is a link to how to update the pscript driver as was asked earlier in the thread: http://svn.netlabs.org/ecups/wiki/WikiStart |
