Throughout the day, there have been speculations as to whether MS's move to publicize about the meeting has been to convince the Social Democrats to take side in their "maybe / maybe not" stance that started during the elections.

If that's the case, then it's certainly backfired: The Social Democrats have put out a press release entitled "Blackmail shall not dictate Danish IT policy" saying that that corporations -- no matter how big -- have no business trying to dictate Danish policy.

Their IT spokesperson is Thomas Adelskov

Also, the major union for people employed in the field of IT, Prosa, is extremely upset, claiming in a separate press release that caving in to MS will hurt the free competition badly.

The chairman of Prosa is quoted as saying, among other things
(http://www.prosa.dk/News/index.php3?story_id=1666),

now the mask is coming off, and everyone can see that Bill Gates is
not just the friendly philanthropist with the visionary outlook. He is
a tough businessman that will do anything to defend his economical
interests.

and

Microsoft will be the real losers, if they - i a global software
market - think they can barricade themselves inside the US.

Ouch.

Hi Kim

I could have told you .....

We may be a quiet and polite people, but try to intimidate us, and you will get problems (and almost certanly the opposite of what you want) !

This is the rule for Danes, as i'm shure it is for most european countries.

But this has been very enlightening (for those who did not know Billy's modus operandi allready), it is a good (and highly visible) example of Billy's behaviour, this time it was just more public than normally !

And his timing was perfect, shortly after getting a rather large fine from the EU, he makes a move like this, someone in the political heracy is bound to wake up now !

In Denmark his stunt was reported in Børsen (as mentioned in the article), they does not have many readers as it is a financial paper, but it was also mentioned in (at least) two countrywide papers, and in the Danish national radio's hourly news most of the day !

So here, almost everyone knows !

As mentioned in the article, another 800 persons from the IT sector without a job, will be hard for our (the danish) IT sectorr, but if Billy-boy & co. withdraws to fort US, maybe there will be room for some smaller companies, to make some real innovations !

And with any luck, these companies will be able to use all those unfortunat formar MS employees ;o)

Well, trust me on this one; I've sent out links to articles to bunch of online and paper media in Sweden I also noticed that Sweden largest site regarding it, http://www.idg.se, also had an article about this topic late afternoon. Interesting enough the media started slow to write about it, but I guess that lots of the people has set this topic in focus. During the first hour at Slashdot.org there was already around 300 replies on the article posted there.

Microsft, Siemens, Nokia, Philips, Ericsson and Alcatel
all appear to be a bunch of white-collar hoodlums according
to the links posted.

One way to deal with this is to purchase their
competitor's products, assuming that they are
not white-collar hoodlums. too.

No wonder Linux is becoming popular with
European governments.
