1. Cellular Card and eCS? |
|
|
| "What makes anyone assume they won't work? The older cards have standard UART serial ports built in, the newer faster cards use usb serial ports built in, in either case they are simply Hayes compatible modems that use the AT commands via a dialer. The only recent exception is the Option GT Max as well as a few of Option's other 1.8mbs capable HSDPA modems that use a unique nozomi interface which is really just another high speed serial interface. The latest Option devices that are 3.6 to 7.2mbs capable, went back to the serial usb interface. Does OS/2 have a usb stack as well as some method of dialing? Edit: One very important bit of info is that the newer devices are all 32 bit, not 16 bit. I know that 32 bit support is limited in OS/2." This is from the forum at the Cingular site. With the above information, can eCS use a cellular card?

Would it be treated like an USB/pccard modem?

I was told at the Cingular forum that there might be some older cellular cards that might work with eCS. I will look into it.

I have access to a Cingular Cardbus Aircard and am working on it. This message is being sent from my Verizon Sierra 580 CB Aircard running on eCS 2.0 B3. I will have some news to share by Monday. |

Very true. Thanks for pointing that out. I have Cingular (the new AT&T) and am hoping to that the one for Cingular would work with eCS.

| I bought an Option GT MAX 3.6 cellular card for my WinPC. A the Cingular forum http://forums.cingular.com , it might work with certain drivers. http://forums.cingular.com/cng/board/message?board.id=pccards&thread.id=6105 "if eCS (or any OS, for that matter) has support for USB host controllers via the pc card (aka PCMCIA) interface, and you can force a port to be treated as a virtual serial port (in linux, you use a module called usbserial) then you should be able to get the option card working." "not sure if this is of any help, but i did a little searching around...i have zero experience with eCS. i found the excerpt below at this page: http://www.scoug.com/os24u/2004/scoug407.download.html A more generic USB-to-serial converter driver is available at (if you have a current Software Choice subscription). If you are a registered eComStation user, download it at [ http://www.ecomstation.com ] (after signing-in). (the links were long, so i substituted [link] for the text)" It would be interesting to give it a try in my Thinkpad T23 with eCS 1.2r.
