1. Cingular HSPA/UTMS/EDGE and eCS? |

"BigWarpGuy wrote: I have two Thinkpads but neither runs Windows. I have eComStation 1.1 and 1.2 on them (1.1 on T23 and 1.2 on A22m). I assume it only works with Windows? It would be great if one could use OS/2-eCS to use it."My question with the response below. "I am only speaking from speculation, but I just recently purchased the Sierra Wireless Aircard 860 (Cingular HSDPA/UTMS/EDGE). You can download the AT command set for that card from Sierra Wireless. With this information, I would think you could set up a connection manually with whatever "Terminal" type software or dial-up-networking you have available. | Hi BWG, I think that if the card itself is recognized (accessible) by eCS, the rest is fairly simple. It reminds me of the article on VOICE about using a mobile phone to connect to the internet by using AT commands via INJoy: http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL0606H/feature_1.html The only question is... OS/2|eCs and PCCards/PCMCIA <sigh /> I hate that stuff... HTH (to some extent) Greetings Thomas |

| Hi again BWG, okay, I've found some information that might be useful. In some pdf'ed data sheet I've seen that it comes with "NDIS drivers"... hmm... whatever that might mean, I'm not sure that it refers to OS/2 NDIS drivers (for the MPTS). Then, here http://mycusthelp.com/sierrawireless/supportkbitem.asp?sSessionID=&Inc=4703&sFilA=FAQ Category&sFilB=Products&sFilC=&FA=19&FB=26&FC=-1 some Linux guy tells how to make it run under Linux. This rather matches with what I would have sucpected it to work like: As a serial port modem (basically) and NOT a NIC (ndis). Also, I've found a resource on how to use it with Mac OSX, that also describes the "modem driver" approach. I've even downloaded stuff from cingular, but there was no glimpse of any "driver" in it so I suppose you might ask the guy from the ThinkPad forum if he can send you (us) the "driver" part or index from the cd that came with the card... so we might take a look if there's something useful (for os/2|eCS) on it. last updated at 25 Jul, 2006 13:01 (1 times) It's me again, sorry...this one's interesting too: http://mycusthelp.com/sierrawireless/supportkbitem.asp?sSessionID=&Inc=5338&sFilA=FAQ Category&sFilB=Products&sFilC=&FA=19&FB=26&FC=-1 It describes installation of the card under WinNT4. What makes it interesting is the fact that it creates a path like this C:\Program Files\Sierra Wireless Inc\AirCard 800 Series\Drivers\WinNT-AC850 that has drivers in it. Ask the TPForum guy, if he would mind sending us the contents of that \Driver directory... Also, it seems like a there's a USB-type device of that pccard (an external box). It uses the same generic drivers but doesn't appear to be from Cingular/Sierra - unfortunately there's only a PDF about it from a company in Slovakia... too bad. you might however want to try googling for a USB type? Chances are that a USB "modem" is better supported on eCS than any PCCard version. Greetings Thomas |

| Thank you for the information. I will check out the links and ask the person at the Thinkpad forum. There is also a forum at the Cingular site. I asked about a card that would work with eComStation. I will return with any results from that posting.

warpcafe (25 Jul, 2006 12:19): The only question is... OS/2|eCs and PCCards/PCMCIA <sigh /> I hate that stuff...
I opened a ticket (#824) on ecomstation.com to tell them about my problem (and I am not the only one to report it) of PCCard/PCMCIA services not working anymore with more than 1GB of RAM. I hope this will have Serenity-Mensys (or IBM ?) do some work on this topic... |
