Part of the anouncement from IBM indicates that the currently available device drivers will be withdrawn on December 31, 2006.

"Very few new device drivers are planned for delivery prior to December 31, 2005. After that date, IBM will not provide any new device drivers. The currently available device drivers will remain on the web site through December 31, 2006."

While I don't know if IBM's current device driver license allows for this, and it is true that many of the *free* (ie, drivers that don't require PA subscriptions) are available on Hobbes and other places, is it maybe time within the OS/2 community to start discussing the creation of a mirror of the currently available *free* device drivers?

To me it would make sense to have such a resource availble through something either like the Voice Warpdoctor site or the os2warp.be site (which already has quite a bit of hardware support info)

Thoughts?

What can be done for the moment is upload every free available driver (and by the way also free available fixpacks) to hobbes.

I'm more worried about the fixpacks in several languanges. Currently hobbes only have english fixpacks for Wapr 4 and Warp 3. Possible we should also focus on upload the last free available fixpack for Warp 3 and Warp 4 in several languages.

I I have the time to go through it, I have a copy of that was available some times ago (2001) on the IBM ftp servers. (Just for the case it was needed)

Newer files are less difficult to find, so I think that can be done onver next months, only is needed to organise space on hobbes and set up an easy way to prepare the txt files needed to upload.

I've also been looking at mirroring all the contents on the ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/ (which contains the free stuff) with the understanding that some day it may be gone and we may need to upload it somewhere else.

Of course, there are also other directories on that server which might be worthwhile mirroring too as they have OS/2 updates. The ones I'm aware of include: ASKPSP, LAN, LANDIST, MPTS, TCPIP. Are there others that I'm missing?
