1. Opera Freezes eCS PC?
Reply to this topic with quote Modify your message
I downloaded the Opera browser for OS/2. It is the latest version for OS/2 but not their latest version (for other platforms, it is 6 or 7). I installed it. I tried it but it stops my eCS computer at the Opera logo and I am unable to do anything till it is rebooted. I have heard others have the same problem and implied it is a confict with ODIN. I have downloaded the latest ODIN from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/odinusers . I will try again. Any help or suggestions on it it?

I have been told to rename the ODIN directory to see if it will help Opera to run. I am trying to use Opera since I can not get the Innotek runtime to install on my eCS computer (so I can install the javakit from Innotek which requires the innotek runtime to install).

I might have to disable the audio so I can install the runtime.

I tried installing the newer ODIN but I was told that OPERA uses an older ODIN and that is where the conflict is.

There will be builds of ODIN at http://www.netlabs.org again. One can still get them at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/odinusers but they are/will be making avaiable at http://odin.netlabs.org (IIRC on the URL).

Have you ever done / tried what I've said to you on an other yahoo-mailinglist.

Never have seen an answer back...

Hmm it's a two second try...

ren x:\odin x:\odin1

opera.exe

That's all..
Don't understand what's so hard for trying.
Because you posted to several groups, so it seems urgent,
but do not take the two seconds for trying...

Just my 2 euro-cents

I have things going on at work and at home.

By posting to several groups, I was hoping more to see it therefore greater chance to find a solution. I am using the IBM Browser but it have not been able to enable JAVA. By installing Opera, I had hoped it had JAVA enabled. If I could enable JAVA with the IBM Browser, I would not need Opera.

Your help is appreciated. Thank you.

I took out any ODIN statements in the config.sys (there was only two found when I did a search using odin). I rebooted. It still froze my computer. I have an earlier version of Opera for OS/2 (build 24 - IIRC). I have it on a mini-cdr disc.

I've tried Opera 2 or 3 times. I have always had some problems and I have given it up. Its hard to see why trying more if they even don't intend to update for OS/2 any more. Mozilla is much better and stable in my opinion and also updated. I should get rid of the other problem instead, that is to make java from Innotek start working on your system.

I took out the ODIN statements in config.sys and rebooted. It still froze my computer. I had an earlier version of Opera for OS/2 and installed it. It works. I was not able to use the registration code with it (it would not take it). I did try your suggestion but it still froze the computer.

I have simply said "rename your Odin-drectory". Because you may have remmed out all from the config.sys but there could be leads in the OS2.ini. So without even rebooting "rename the dir" and try.

Just my 2 €-cents...

I renamed the odin directory to nido. I restarted the computer. I tried the newer OS/2 versioin of Opera. It did not freeze my computer. It showed the Opera 'square' briefly but did not start. My computer was fine/did not freeze.
