1. FDISK.EXE Replacement?
Reply to this topic with quote Modify your message
I have a 20 gigabyte hard drive. Fdisk.exe that comes with OS/2 will only see 953 megabytes of it. Is there a more powerfull version of fdisk.exe? Is there software that does the same thing but allows one to install any and be seen by any operating system? I really want to install OS/2 Warp ver 3 or 4. The alternative (that I have found) is not pleasant (EWW YUCKK).
OS/2 Warp-ed to the very end.

The plain and simple fdisk should work out. But, if You are use the plain native installations diskettes that comes along with either Warp 3 or 4 You have to update them with latest IDE drivers available. You can download needed file from following url: http://service5.boulder.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf/Driver+Profile+Web/idedasd.exe?OpenDocument

I have been told of a fdisk.exe replacement. It is called xfdisk.exe. It is found at http://home.pages.de/~xfdisk. It is a dos program but I was told of two settings to use (/autohide and /os2). There is also the source code for the program (I guess if someone wanted to create their own version or update it [maybe someone will create an OS/2 version ?]).

Well, I don't know if You solved your problem with large volume and setting it up with fdisk. But if you really want to use another "fdisk clone" you should look at DFSee and you can find it at:

http://www.fsys.demon.nl/dfsee.htm

It is a great tool and might not be for the average novice users. You really have to spend a few moment to read some documents. But give it a try.

I was able to use fdisk with updated ide drivers. I tried DFSee but found it a little confusing. There is a DFSee discussion group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dfsee-support .

PS I found a free version of DOS that source codes for different programs if someone was to port them to OS/2. Its url is http://www.freedos.org.

PSS If others were interested in creating a clone of OS/2, these sites might be of help.
http://www.microwindows.org
http://www.minigui.org
They are open source and some Warp programmer might consider them a challenge to port to OS/2.
