1. IBM 330 X Series Servers |
|
|
| We have multiple machines of this type and get a message sporadically stating an "Elongated Sleep Timer, ChkSrvr" message with our monitoring tools. When checked there seems to be no issue with the machines. Also it just seems to happen with the 330 series machines. Has anyone run across this before? |

| Found out that it is a REXX program running in the background that has problems and kicks off this alert |

| Still not quite sure on the situation. Which of the following case is your situation a. A single REXX program which montior all servers (included the X330 servers). That program generate the error message whenever those servers are checked. Further questions : 1. Can that program continure to run after it passed through X330 servers ? 2. What exactly did the program checking ? Links status such as ping or other events ? b. Different instant of the same program which polls servers independently. Only those which poll X330 servers gave this message. Same further questions : 1. Can the program continue to run after those message was generated ? 2. What exactly did the program checking ? Did the X330 servers run with the same protocol stack with other 'normal' servers ?

| The REXX program does a server "Health Check" monitoring various aspects of the server. No the issue is not resolved. Best attempt to answer your questions. The program runs and polls the servers independently. 1) Yes the program does continue to run after the error messages. 2) Multiple issues 3) Yes same protocol stack running on all servers. |

| Is it possible to isolate during the check of which issue did the error message come out ? Besides hardware configurations, is there anything common for those x330 servers. ie in same LAN segments. Besides OS/2, is there any IBM or 3rd party applications running on those servers ? |
