1. USB pen Drive: Hamlet eXagerate Zelig pen 128Mb (new) |
|
|
| Hi all, sorry for the double post, but since this was one of the "blocked" threads I think I may have lost a few replies. The original text follows... Looking at the OS/2 - USB site, and seeing that all the reported pen drives were working correctly with the latest USB drivers (and/or CWUSB drivers) I went quite confidently to buy a pen drive as in the subject. Why THAT one: because we use those at work and I know they work well and reliably. Now I am able to work with it under Windoze98, but eCS 1.1 with latest USB drivers won't see it at all. Even with CWUSB nothing displays. Is there anyone with experiance with the subject? Thankyou in advance... Bye Cris |

| Ok, which of the usb drivers did you update, the base install, or? Just in case please provide with the name and version of the drivers that you currently are running with. So to be sure that we don't miss out anything. Also what motherboard are you using; is it using Intel chipset? Reason for asking is that I have had problem with SIS chipset. Moving the same installation over to a Intel based system was enought to get the USB to working as it should? Does the USB unit show up within the USB Manager (3rd party software)? /Kim |

Hi Kim, first of all: thankyou for your prompt reply! On to the questions: - I updated all the drivers: base and MSD (IIRC). The USB drivers I can see on the system are all at the 10.123 level (I verified), which is the latest available from IBM AFAIK. I also tried with the testcase drivers that were announced some time ago... they are at 10.126 level. No joy. I went back to 10.123 just to be sure. I laso updated the OS2LOADER because on the eCS site they say it is necessary for the new USB drivers to work. I tried also with the CW-USB drivers v1.2b, with no luck. Finally, I tried mixing the IBM base drivers with the CW-USB MSD driver... still no joy. The system doens't even beep when I insert the USB key. - I am using an Intel P2B (old PII) MoBo, with a single USB 1.1 controller (UHCI). - The USB Manager shows "0 attached SUB devices" even when the key is in. Refreshing the LVM list of removable devices does nothing. LVMGUI shows a phantom 96Mb drive which reports errors (this stays there even when the USB key is NOT in... it is normal AFAIK). Thankyou! Bye Cris |

| Sorry to say, but i'm out of suggestion here, since I haven't played around with pen drives, yet. But, price is down so I guess I'll try to get my hands on one and give it a try. I have had my fair fight with Epson USB scanner that I finally got to work with the latest USB drivers... Hmm.. I'm not sure here, but I recall that there must be at least one old thread regarding pen devices. Don't know if you seen it, but let's if I can find it. Might be that also move in all USB based hardware to own section, ie USB SIG. Open for suggestion if this would be approved from our visitors. |

| I have never tried getting a pen drive to work but I had trouble with USB until I updated the kernel as well as os2ldr -- don't know why. Does any USB device work e.g a mouse? Do the USB drivers load correctly, using /V on the config.sys line should show a boot message indicating that the driver has loaded etc. Peter |

Hi Cris You mentioned that your MOBO provides USB 1.1 ! Is your USB Pen USB 2.0 and backward-compatible with USB 1.1 ? May be these USB 1.1 / 2.0 version are causing the problem(s) !? |

I had a similiar issue with a Microtech Tripple Card reader, but it is a SCSI device. LVM would report a drive, but it showed errors. When I installed IBMRSCSI.FLT(available from the eComstation device drivers download) it fixed it. Not sure this relates to USB support, but it is a "Shoot in the dark". Cheers

Hi sam, yes, the pen is USB 1.1 compatible. It is working under Win98 on the very same PC, so this should not be a problem. Thankyou for the sugestion! Bye Cris |

This is quite interesting, but sincerely I don't know how could I apply this to an USB device. What's the IBMRSCSI.FLT supposed to do? Thankyou! Bye Cris |

I initially thought this problem was caused by an irq conflict but as the drivers load properly I guess it must be a problem with the driver. Although I would still disable everything you can in bios and rem out any drivers (using irq's), beside usb drivers, to see if you can get the pen drive to work. Good luck. |

Hi sam, yes, the pen is USB 1.1 compatible. It is working under Win98 on the very same PC, so this should not be a problem.
What I can add to these discussion that I've have had two pens for testing. One was a 128 Mb with USB v1.1 and the other one was a 256 Mb with USB v2.0 wuth backwards compatability with v1.1. The pens where nonames but came from the fabric like color, design, numbers etc. The 128 Mb works without a hitch and I could do all I want. The 256 Mb was not recognized ever, but worked under XP. My MB is btw a v1.1 ... So bottomline could be that I think that pendrives who are fully v1.1 in a v1.1 MB would/could/should work without problems and v2.0 pendrives (albeit v1.1 backwards) in a v1.1 MB could/would give trouble...
With kind regards,Henk/2
