1. Lexmark and OS/2? |
|
|
"The Lexmark color laser printers that are compatible with OS/2 are the C522, and the C524. The C520 is also able to work with OS/2, but it is a retail only printer. You can purchase this printer from Sam's Club, or Staples. The C520 and C524 printer can be found on the Lexmark website at http://www.lexmark.com "I asked Lexmark if they had any color laser printers that work with OS/2-eCS. The above is their reply. I will check the prices.

| I am quite impressed that they were willing to talk about OS/2, and even know that there are current compatible products. If I am ever in the market for a printer, I will be looking at Lexmark. |

| you know lexmark's history? because of it, banks widely used ibm / lexmark printers. this line of printers has its own processor unlike a "win-printer". how much longer they can afford to make "real" printers is anyone's guess. my 4039 10r has been a great investment (cost me $3,300.00) |

I think it is a good idea to support companies that still support OS/2-eCS.

I am looking for the OS/2 driver.

| Logically, then, if there are no OS/2 drivers available for download from Lexmark or on disk with the printer, it seems there are only two possibilities. 1) This printer series is known to work with existing Lexmark-OS/2 drivers included with eComStation. 2) The Lexmark tech support was mistaken about it being compatible with OS/2. It would be nice to know the answer to this. |

| I *think* this printer has a Postscript mode which might work with the current PS drivers, or with using the WinPPD converter. I can tell you that the printers have fabulous output, and that you can connect to the print server on the machine using your web browser from any OS, though I have not yet tried to print to it from an OS/2 station. Unfortunately, the printer we set up (a c520n) is at a client's and the eCS station there is their main server that I don't feel like messing with to test it... but if we sell another one, I'll try to set it up and test it here before we drop it off (dont hold your breath though - most of our network setups do not include printers, so it may be a long while). -Robert PS: And yes, we are setting up eCS servers at client locations - nothing but eCS servers... 3 up so far, 3 more coming soon, 100 long term... |

Bought the Lexmark C522 at CDW for ~$300 (closeout sale) and set it up as a postscript printer. What I did was to just select the Lexmark C720 postscript driver when setting up in ecomstation (gets you pscript.drv). That gives a nice icon and I renamed it C522. Its running as a network printer and gives beautiful output. I did update the firmware as well. Couldn't get either the browser or tftp to work from ecomstation, but could ftp the file to the printer and it then updated.
