There is compact flash and a compact flash to pc card
adapter at the above site. Can this be used on a notebook
computer that has OS/2 Warp ver 4 on it?

Hi,

it should basically work, if you have the pcmcia stuff installed along with the card director ("Plug-n-play for pcmcia" object in system configuration). I used a different adapter model to access my digital cameras CF card. It says "cf to ata" interface and thus "translates" the CF card to a pcmcia-harddisk type of device.
So I can't tell whether the Pretec adapter "emulates" a hard disk or "memory expansion". But in all, it should work as long as you have resources left that can be assigned to the device by the PCMCIA-PnP system.

If there's no resources (irq, i/o, etc.) left that can be assigned, you'll see the CF card appear as "memory" with no chance of getting it to work...
So BE CAREFUL!

I can't exactly tell you whether it works or not. I'm not fond of USB but chances are quite better to find a USB card reader that supports multiple types of memory cards... (so-called 5-in-1, 6-in-1 or whatsoever-in-1 readers). IIRC the OS/2 USB site (right here on OS2WORLD I guess) lists some USB readers to work with eCS / OS/2. Those multiple card type readers provide you with more flexibility (not just 1 type of card) and they might be cheaper than the pcmcia adapters... given the fact that your notebook has USB ports of course!

Sorry I can't tell you something more precise!
Thomas

If I were to use something like the Pretec pcmcia compact flash adatper, it would be on my older Thinkpad 760EL which does not have any usb ports (I have a pcmcia usb card but it is not seen by Warp ver 4 on my TP760EL). Thanks for the information.
