We are currently working on a major update of OS2 World where some features will be removed and some new will be added. As well, will also do some attempts on re-designing the layout of the entire site.

If any one has any suggestion regarding layout and features, please either post them here or send an e-mail to kimh at os2world.com.

Hi, Kim

I would suggest a change from grey to a light shade of blue.

The standard phpBB forum software has some nice colors that you might wish to experiment with.

We have over the last year been looking for a new online forum as well, but there are few that comes close to the function and features that Ultraboard 2000 has. Next issue is that we of course also would like to migrate the postings to the new system as well and that isn't always easy. When it come sto phpBB it's not on the list of what I would migrate to. I would rather go for Invision Power Board even if it costs a few dollars to get an licens. But, then again, UltraBoard 2000 wasn't free either and we have a licens. But, it's a dead product; but there are still developers doing hacks and modifications to the script. The installation we have here has a bunch of hacks included and is far from out of the box installation.

Remove the "Online Users" and change it to number of page Hits.

Kim,

you might remember our emails a few month ago regarding the news of OS/2 World as a Mozilla Sidebar. I promissed to look around the web for nicely made sidebars.

Well, I did that and I was quite dissapointed to find out that this really nice feature of Mozilla is not widely used on the net. I thought I needed more reseach before I report back, and then: I forgot (blush, sorry).

However, in fact the best side bar is the one from CNN, IMHO.

It still would be great if OS/2 World would provide that feature.

I created a sidebar from your standard OS/2 news page and it "almost" works already (it is just too wide so I have always scrollbars...).

Best regards,
Herwig B.

This is something that we have to look in to also with the migration to the new Content Management System (CMS) there will be lots of new nice features. There will also be some drawback with the migration, for example the news will not initial be listed in rows as it's curently today. But, this will change over the next 12 month from the launch of the new site. I kind of decided for one system to use, but I'm looking around a bit. As well, there is around 15.000 articles to be migrated from the current CMS system into the new one and here I'm getting help. I just need to document how that current structure of the article database is set up and how the new one looks like.

As well, there will be a major clean up of the link database as well.

Main issue today is the the site uses around 12 scripts to keep alive so with the migration to the new system we will at maximum have 2.

I would also like to update the graphics used as well, but then again we aren't using that much actually. The only major picture is the 2 ones used within the header. But, the new system uses skins, so we can very easy make changes and it didn't work out just go back to the original working setup.

An RSS feed of the news would be nice.

How about a web portal? It seems to be the "in" thing.
Imagine the one stop shop this site already is, But organized in a one click jump to the area(s) the users are following, Let a user cookie carry the look, feed choice and feel of the site..
