Well it seems that my DCITU, is not working any longer to download images from my Camera... Don't know what is happening,,,, Does anyone know of a Java program that runs under eCS 1.1 or 1.2? or a multi card reader that has a USB connection, that is a major name...don't want any off the cuff outfit... | I have a "Sandisk Imagemate 5 in 1" multi card reader which works fine in eCS. With the latest USB drivers it just turns up as a removeable drive, and I just plug my memory card (SD card) from the camera into the reader, and copy the files (which are JPG) over to the computer. The card reader wasn't expensive (I see them around $20 in the store), and it also saves the trouble of plugging the camera into the cable all the time. |

last updated at 12 Sep, 2006 23:18 (2 times) Here's the link to the product information on the unit that I have:http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1151)-SDDR-99-SanDisk_ImageMate_5In1_ReaderWriter.aspx It doesn't list SmartMedia cards on its list of supported media. For me, all my stuff is SecureDigital (SD) cards, which this reader does fine. SanDisk does have a 12-in-1 unit which says it will do SmartMedia, there are product specs at: http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1145)-SDDR-89-SanDisk_ImageMate_12in1_ReaderWriter.aspx I have never used the 12-in-1 product, so I don't know if it will work with OS/2. But based on my experience at getting the 5-in-1 working (all I had to do is plug the unit into the USB port, and I did update to the latest USB drivers from the eCS website - but I'm not sure if it was necessary to update, it might have worked with the older default drivers that ship with eCS), I would guess that the 12-in-1 unit probably works equally well. Maybe someone else has experience with this particular unit. I guess I should mention that if you're running Warp 4 (or 3), with the really old (but at the time free) USB drivers, you may have trouble getting things to work. My main experience is with the latest IBM drivers as downloaded from the eCS site. Although I did manage to get the unit to work with the CW-USB drivers on my laptop which still has Warp 4 installed (I never updated my laptop to eCS). |

I read that using a card reader is faster (download) than connecting the camera directly. It does seem pretty fast. The camera I use has the feature of being seen either as a web cam or as a external drive. My camera is from Mustek.

Don't forget that your eCS license allows you to install from the same copy on both a laptop and a desktop, as long as you don't use both at the same time Stuart |

last updated at 14 Sep, 2006 00:21 (1 times) Yes, I know that I'm allowed to install eCS on both the desktop and laptop using the same license. However I just havn't had a need to update the laptop - for OS/2, it runs everything I need in Warp 4 + FP15 (with testcase 14.103a kernel), and the hardware on the laptop all works. I'm sure there would be no difficulty upgrading, however I've generally followed the rule of "if it isn't broken, why fix it?" |

It does? I never saw that. Where can I find this? Does it apply to eCS 1.1? |

OK, I just checked, and I made a mistake. The eCS 1.0 license allowed for this, the eCS 1.1 DOES NOT (I assume that 1.2 is the same as 1.1, but I can't find the manual). So please ignore my earlier statement, unless you are running eCS 1.0! Sorry for the confusion. Relevant statement is in the manual, Appendix A. Stuart |

last updated at 14 Sep, 2006 17:15 (1 times) The 1.2 license does allow for this (I just checked). In the first few paragraphs of the license agreement that you see when you first run the installer it states that you're allowed to have it installed on two computers at once, as long as you're not using both computers at the same time. It uses the example of a desktop and a laptop, but seems to be written in such a way that it could be refering to any 2 computers. There does not seem to be a text copy of the license on the actual install CD, so the only way (that I was able to find it) to read it was to boot up from the CD and start the installer (of course, you can hit "cancel" once you get to the license and not install anything if you want to just read the license). I don't know about the 1.1 license. |

BigWarpGuy (11 Sep, 2006 17:31): I have an Iogear USB card reader that one can use with either SD or MMC. I have succesfully used it with my eCS 1.1 desktop and notebook computer. http://www.iogear.com/main.php?loc=product_category&category=usb I have this one. http://www.iogear.com/main.php?loc=product&Item=GFR202SD&name=Pocket Card ReaderWhat kind of memory does your camera use?
I wrote a small artilce on my experience with the Mustek video camera and eCS 1.1. It is not long but I was able to download videos from the video camera to my eCS 1.1 Thinkpad. I prefer cameras that use some form of flash memory card that one can load into a card reader that can be read by eCS as mass storage. With my video camera, it can also be seen as an USB mass storage device.
