1. Playing around with my eCS desktop |
|
|
last updated at 30 Jan, 2006 04:20 (2 times) I created the background and then made some new multipage folders for my system. I failed to install estlyer lite on installation, so presently I am unable to use any of the 125 control schemes I have created. Once eSchemes is released in eCS 2.0, my schemes will no longer be able to be used. Maybe then, I will try to convert some over to the new format. However, I presently do not have access to eschemes, so I couldn't test any converted themes even if I wanted to.I built the colorful folders on my laptop. All show up fine on it. However, on a desktop machine, the darker folders may not be that clear. |

It looks good! What did you use to create the background? BTW... what's a "multipage" folder? A repeatable tile?

125!? That's quite a lot... musta took you ages to make. Are they publicly available?

Unfortunately, I have to had to use a couple of Windows programs, Photoshop Elements 3 and Paint Shop Pro. BTW... what's a "multipage" folder? A repeatable tile? The normal OS/2 and eCS folder icons each contain 4 sizes of icons:16x16, 20x20, 32x32, 40x40. The operating system selects the size based on the screen resolution. Since each icon is actually 4 icons in one, they are called multipage icons. You can see this is you view one of the icons with PMView. Just select view > next or use the icon editor to view the various sizes. I plan to upload them to Hobbes in the near future when I am through seeing if I can add some addition graphics to them. Believe me, doing folder icons takes an extremely large amount of time. That is why nobody does them.
It took me around two years of off and on again working on them.
Are they publicly available?
They can be downloaded from http://www.os2ecs.org/ethemes.html However, I noticed that Jeramie failed to replace some of the themes with my latest. Some of the pictures are out of date since I either replaced the themes with something better or deleted the theme because I wasn't happy with it. Some of my earlier work can be found on Hobbes: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/ecs_window_themes.zip When I get a chance, I will upload my latest themes. I cleaned up a lot of the themes and improved others. I have also done some animated mouse pointers for eCS and OS/2 and they can be found on Hobbes: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/ecs_os2_ani_mouse_ptrs.zip http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/ecs_os2_ani_blinkinglights_ptrs.zip http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/ecs_os2_ani_flag_ptrs.zip http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/more_ecs_ani_mouse_ptrs.zip |

Hi David. How about uploading the latest version to Hobbes, so that you are in control of assuring the latest version is always available. And perhaps moving the existing page (or creating a page) to OS/2 World, so again, you would have control of updates. Regards, Sander |

Hi Sander I just uploaded my latest themes package to Hobbes. It contains 133 themes. http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/eCSWindowThemes.zip I had to do some rebuilding since my original zip file got corrupted somehow. The pictures in the inf file are outdated. However, I inlcluded it because it contains important information. I included an earlier version of Jeramie's installer since this version gives permission for me to include it in the package. His later installer does not give such permission. David |

| BTW, a few of you desktop objects/files have caught my notice as being unfamiliar to me when I've thought I'd seen everything that OS/2 has to offer. In particular;
HBInspect.exe The Calender Object - looks something like WPS Wizard REXX Widget &
"Run Jars" - obviously a program for running JAVA *.jar files. Is this a REXX script?

Has anyone else had a problem with this downloaded file? David |

I just re-downloaded it.Same thing. I tried Object Desktop's Archiver, eCSs built-in Archive Viewer, FM/2s Archive Viewer/2 and from the command prompt. This is the output of the latter; unzip ecs_os2_folder_icons Archive: ecs_os2_folder_icons.zip End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive. I can't think of any additional way to extract it. What version of zip/unzip are you using?

I have attached another picture using the red folders on my notebook. Now if I could figure out how to install estyler Lite so I could install my themes package and then use my "blkred" theme. |

FWIW, it unziped fine here using Infozip's Unzip.

| I found the problem. Apparently my copy of Firefox was corrupting the downloads. NFTP downloaded a good copy. Apparently it also ate a response that I sent to this thread. Oh well. Let me try again with a re-install.
