Just wondering, but what would be the typical installations problem with version 4?

The main problem is that the old configuration program xf86setup doesn't work any more. Now you are supposed to run the X server with the -configure parameter and that will create a configuration file. The problem is that this file does not include all that's needed and will probably start the X server in the highest possible resolution. Here, it resulted in a very high, interlaced resolution that was not desireable. So I had to copy some mode lines from my old 3.3.6 configuration file.

All in all, I think the best way is to create a configuration file with xf86setup.exe and merge the mode lines and font paths into the sample configuration file that is included. After that, you can merge the stuff from the config file that has been created by the X server with the -config option. At least that's how I did it myself.
