| The basic idea is to create one big package, combining all of the Multimedia functionality needed for OS/2. The general approach will be to develop an Open Source replacement for OS/2 Multimedia (MMOS2) with added components to support extra file formats. The rules of the "OS/2 Multimedia Infrastructure Project" will be followed to develop new components. The second aspect of this idea will be to include every Open Source Multimedia project in one single install (so as to make one big Multi-media super-charger and replacement for MMOS2). The projects that may be included are MMIO-MP3, Ogg Vorbis, Timidity, CWAudio classes and Media folder, the MMPak by Thetaband, WarpCD, LBMixer, WarpGOGO and more. It will be good to try to harmonise the licensing of these products under the GNU GPL and encourage the developers of CODECs and other components to join forces toward achieving a single goal.

| Biggest problem for many is that there is a lack of multimedia support within OS2 or even if there exist software. There is problem to find it, install it and so on. But, I guess that just trying to indentifying whats available on the "market" would be a big help for many. If there isn't anything available for OS2 or if the it doesn't work that great, then it would be of interest of finding anything from other platforms that can be used under OS2 (re-compile). /Kim |

| Perhaps the project could be part of a replacement for OS/2 (like http://sourceforge.net/projects/nudawn or http://www.osfree.org ?).

| Well, lets remeber that this is only and idea, nothing coded in this direcction yet. What I had been talking with some people is that it seem to be missing some place to post all the bugs related to MMPM/2 and unofficial patches and replacements, so we can start replacing the OS/2 multimedia with something Open Source components that has a similar function as MMPM/2. | It is a good idea worthy of support by/from the OS/2 community. PS http://sourceforge.net/projects/nudawn OS/2 Warp-ed to the very end. |

| Would/could this include being able to record off a cassette player via a cable connected to either the input or microphone port of a sound card or notebook computer? PS In my search for programs to record from a casette player, I was given these urls. I have yet to try them. http://www.cdmagic.de/IndexE.htm OS/2 Warp-ed to the very end. |

| Program that I've tried and tested out to make recordings with from external sources is dTape (Digital Tape Recorder) by Paul Ratcliffe. One of the mentioned urls above is the one you should check out. Also you can check the announcement it here . |

| There is a multimedia project mentioned at http://www.os2.org . Is it similar to the project mentioned here?
