I just got sniped twice for 2 OS/2 16-bit items(this and this). I have only 1 bid left on an other OS/2 16-bit software. |

last updated at 28 Jul, 2005 07:12 (1 times) The user "Lucmonette" is a pro for getting OS/2-related items at the last second. He assumes people do not put high bids on these items, which is generally true, and so he gets them by sniping them at the last second with a very high bid. Beware of him if you want an item related to OS/2. Or just look at the list of the items he won in the past to know when he will do that (he seems clever enough not to bid at an item he already owns) and if you want the item on auction, use a very high bid, really the highest you can afford. Perhaps if people make him spend twice his monthly salary he will stop doing that. But for the moment he will bid on every OS/2 software he does not have. |

| The important thing I have learned is not to bid low. You can track an item without bidding on it, *and then*, bid on it as high as you can afford in the last minute. eBay auctions will not automatically use your high bid. It will automatically go an increment above another competitor's high bid. It all depends how much you want to pay for it. I managed to learn this the hard way, thinking OS/2 isn't a large market. However, there are a lot of former OS/2 users and now collector's of "rare" PC items. I managed to pick up a few gems myself, including Microsoft OS/2 OEM diskettes from Fujitsu. I also purchased Microsoft Word for OS/2. You have to determine for yourself it is rare or not and bid accordingly. |

| Also beware of a shop that sells old softwares (I cannot remember the name, it was something like empms.com). They like getting cheap softwares on eBay by sniping items during the last seconds and then reselling them for hundreds of dollars... |

| You could always try sniping yourself... Bidnapper.com is pretty good, and inexpensive. Quote me (srtgray) if you try it, I'll get some credit! Thanks, Stuart |

| The most important is to set ones own budget for the item that you want to buy. If you plan to buy an item and willing to pay, let say $100, well, then go for $100 when the auction are close to end. Then again, as someone already pointed out, if you wait to long and and uses tools to snipe an item, well, trust me it doesn't always work. Since eBay system also have an limit on how much they can process and we shouldn't talk about the delay of transfer data over internet. |
