| Hi, I'm just wondering what the status of win32prn is. I have to print a large format poster to a HP designjet 1055cm+ and of course there's no OS/2 driver for this (unless someone can suggest using another postscript driver). I was thinking of trying win32prn and tried downloading the files from os2warp.be, but I keep timing out. Is there any place to download this? Thanks for any info. cytan |

| A couple of thoughts come to mind. First, I am not sure where to get the win32prn at this time... I may have a copy on a cd somewhere though so I'll look around some. I don't know if it would work with that plotter or not but even if it does, win32prn won't print color as I recall (something to be mindful of in case you hadn't noticed that). Second, I don't have any reason to suspect it will work but if I were trying to get it to work I would try the Designjet 755cm driver. Third, the other thing you could try is to use pin to create the driver from the Windoze PS ppd file. This may well be your best option as it does have PS drivers, though I have never attempted to know for sure. Andy |

| I don't know if it will actually work as I can't test it but I successfully imported the HP DesignJet 1055cm PS3 driver using the windows PPD file. It shows up as an installable printer now. Andy |

Thanks for the pointer. I'll try it out on Monday when I get access to my OS/2 box at work. cytan |

| Well, I just tried the pin utility and get the following: ************************************************ [E:\PSDRIVER].\pin PPD E:\PSDRIVER\PPD E:\PSDRIVER\OUT\PSCRIPT.DRV PostScript resource packaging utility version 1.00 Copyright © IBM Corp. 2000,2001. | Gawd, it turns out I needed to copy everything from E:/os2/dll/pscript to E:/psdriver/out and have the *.PPD files in e:/psdriver/PPD and then execute: pin ppd ..\PPD pscript.drv in the E:/psdriver/out directory. Anyhow, I've imported the the PPD and have successfully installed the driver. Unfortunately, everything: PMView, OpenOffice keeps crashing when I try to use this printer. Ugghhh .... cytan |

| The ea's were not rebound to pscript.drv. I don't remember the command to rebind them. I copied the pscript.drv from d:\os2\dll\pscript\pscript.drv to another location (just so I was sure I wouldn't corrupt it). I then updated it with pin.exe and then pointed to that location for printer install. Andy |

| Well, after fussing around a bit. To successfully do the install I had to make the printer twice, first time the files that were made by PIN would be copied to os2/dll/pscript directory during the create printer process. The second time instead of pointing to e:/psdriver/out, I would point to e:/os2/dll/pscript in the select driver part of the installation and then create the printer. This time the printer object would not crash PMVIEW etc. because it has a printer property, i.e. tray selection, landscape or portrait etc. Anyhow, I tried printing a poster from OpenOffice and that gave me a small strip of poster even though I had specified a 24x48 in2 size in the printer property. I tried printing from Acrobat 5, and again only a small strip would print out. And in the preview of Acrobat 5, it does not think I have a 24x48 in2 size poster but an A4 size paper. I then used PMVIEW to print out onto 24x48in, and it worked! Also did this with LOTUS Freelance graphics and it also worked. My diagnosis: there is a bug in the odinized versions of OpenOffice and Acrobat 5 that prevent printing on large format printers. I will look at the raw postscript and see if I can fix this. Native OS/2 programmes should be immune to this like PMVIEW. cytan |

| There have been quite a few problems with printing from OO and Acrobat (and probably other odinized stuff too). I've recently had a problem where I was trying to print a PDF file from Acrobat 5. Unfortunately it printed gibberish (although looked fine on the screen). I then tried it from Acrobat 4, and had the same result. Acrobat 3 printed the text okay and readable, but it wasn't able to understand the graphics in the file. Finally to get it printed, I booted over to my Win98 partition.... |

>Is there any news on the progress of the win32prn project? Consider it dead and barried. The source code will be donated toNetlabs and the way to CUPS. It also has support for cheap inject printers etc. Roderick" I asked about news of the progress of win32prn and the above was the reply. |
