1. Error unless I disable the Floppy OS/2 2.11 |

| Strange Maybe someone might be able to help me figure this one out but I found out that whenever I disable the FLOPPY in the BIOS my printing error which causes Trap 000D is solved and I have no more Printer problems. What do I need to do to fix this other than disabling the floppy. I an using a Pent III 550 MHz. All other functions runs ok. |

| That sounds strange. Check to see what IRQ is being used by the floppy and printer. If they are both trying to share the same IRQ, I could see this happening. OS/2 2.11 didn't know anything about IRQ sharing. In general, printer ports usually are on IRQ7, make sure nothing else is using that IRQ. |

I have tried it on 3 different PC and the same problem occurs the original motherboard had no floppy controller so the SCSI DPT20xx did the controlling of the floppy I now I use a much newer motherboard that has the floppy controller integrated into it also I am using IDE HDD instead of SCSI HDD. I have also loaded the newest OS2 floppy drivers I can find. Over the past 2 weeks I have properly tested the system and all printing works FINE once the Floppy is disabled in bios,if the floppy is enable all works well EXCEPT printing. I both cases the PRINT SCREEN works everytime no problem. |

| Perhaps buy a card with LPT. They can be found used at an affordable price. You can even purchase new ones that are PCI. Also, verify all jumper settings on your motherboard to ensure you have jumpered everything correctly. Another thing is to check in the BIOS to see if it is in the right mode. Set the LPT to the oldest technology (not bidirectional, enhanced or whatever). Other than to verify your BIOS and motherboard jumper settings, you may have to consider testing your motherboard with another operating system. |

The three other PC that I tested it with are all running XP PRO with absolutely so problem. As far is another LPT board is concern, it gives the trouble with the PCI Serial board IN or OUT so I really don't think physical board seems to have any effect on the problem (I am using serial printer). The programs I need to run from OS/2 does not require the use of the floppy so disabling it is no problem right not but because I am running a dual boot with XP each time I need to Boot in XP I have to go to the Bios and enable the floppy. I have even tried it in Mirosoft Virtual PC and is gives the same 100% problem, unless I disable the floppy even in Virtual PC it will not print yet all other system runs perfectely. All I have done is change from an old 486 66MHz PC to a Pentium 3 PC with a PCI serial instead of a ISA Serial DIGI BOARD and a IDE HDD instead of a SCSI HDD and floppy which ran from a SCSI DPT20xx controller. Most likely it's some thing with my CONFIG.SYS that I am overlooking. I NEED HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

last updated at 18 Dec, 2006 00:39 (1 times) Clearly OS/2 2.11 was not designed to run on PCI systems, so the fact that the problem is not seen in Windows XP is irrelevant. The fact that 2.11 works at all for you on a P-III is remarkable.Poking around on the web I found this: http://w3.ag.uiuc.edu/OS2/tricks7.html#711
The default mode of printing under OS/2 Warp is now via polling, rather than interrupt-driven, as was the case in previous OS/2 versions.
I would have suggested adding /IRQ to PRINT01.SYS, but apparently that only applies to Warp, reverting it to the old behavior that is problematic for you. Applying this "fix" in reverse, you could try to find a PRINT01.SYS from a newer version of OS/2, say in a fixpak if you don't have one. Generally not advisable, and maybe won't work at all, but it may be worth a shot. Otherwise, you're just going to have to upgrade to Warp or eComStation. One other thing. You have not said whether you have verified that the LPT port is on IRQ 7, and whether anything else (like the floppy controller) is using IRQ 7. That is crucial. Windows won't care about IRQ's, but OS/2 2.11 would definitely puke if it is not strictly observed. |

I tried that "print01.sys /IRQ" yesterday and it did not help also my LPT port is set at IRQ 7 in the Bios. I am still thinking that it's something in my Config. I am fairly new to OS/2, our OS/2 system has beem up for the last 15 years without any problem so I had very little understanding of how it really works since it has always done well untill recently when the CPU died after 15 years. Not having any of my Installation disks I had no choice but to clone the SCSI HDD to IDE HDD and shift around my CONFIG.SYS so that I could boot from IDE and relpace a few drivers with newer ones so it could see larger HDD. I am saying this to say "my current config sys still has all the settings of my 15 YEARS OLD CPU. Basedev=Print01.sys was not in my original config sys so I put it in but it still did not make a difference. With my os/2 if I need the floppy drive I have to go to the os/2 command prompt and type "reserve a:" My original systen is down so I am not able to determine if whenever I reserve A and try to print I would have same problem. I hope a little more of my CPU history will help to try and figure out what needs to be done. |

| Also remember now that even when I use Virtual PC and VMWare I still have the same problem and if I dissabe floppy in BOTH virtual Machines I have no printing problem, so problem is not HARDWARE but configuration. |

| One obvious question: do you need both floppy and printer? Presumably you do, but can you get away without one or the other for 90% of the time? What role does the OS/2 machine fill - scientific work, PSTN exchange? Stuart |

| In OS/2 I hardly ever use the floppy so that's fine but because I am running a dual boot with XP each time I have to go to Bios and enable Floppy before I boot to XP and thats where it gets alittle annoying. |

| Boy, replacing the hardware on a 15-yr-old installation of any OS would be a nightmare. I don't envy you. What I would probably do in this situation if you don't want to upgrade to eComStation is go to a surplus store or eBay and buy another 486. It could be had for less than the cost of the time you've spent already, and then you don't have the hassle of dual booting and changing BIOS settings. I've never tested OS/2 2.11 on anything higher than a Pentium (I) class system, and then I never tried printing. Virtual PC and VMWare both emulate more recent hardware than a 486. I said adding /IRQ to PRINT01.SYS would not help because you don't have Warp. That switch is to tell Warp to revert to 2.11 behavior. Interesting that it wasn't there. Maybe it isn't needed. Have you applied the latest fixpaks? The only other related config.sys setting I can think of is to be sure you have IBMFLPY1.ADD and not IBMFLPY2.ADD, but I doubt that would make a difference. I'm thinking it's just incompatible. |

Help me out here, How do I know exactly which version OS/2 I have? whenever my computer is starting it shows "Citrix A + Server 2.01" My original OS/2 was version 1.1 Citrix Multiuser, I think we got a upgrade after the first 7 years from 33MHz to a 66MHz CPU, We should also have gotten a OS/2 upgrade as well, that was some time ago I cann't exactly remember and Like I said the system ran for 15 Years no problem so now I am force to learn about OS/2. with only this bug left to try and sort out. |

| Jamich, One thing I don't understand ... Did you move the OS/2 via hard drive to a new motherboard? Or did you do an install? I decided to break out my old OS/2 2.1 over the weekend then proceeded to upgrade it to OS/2 Warp v3, which I applied the last available FixPak. It installed fine. Hardware is AMD K6-2 550Mhz CPU, 256MBs RAM, 10GB PATA hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX200 (which OS/2 2.1 recognized as SVGA adapter, but OS/2 Warp 3 saw as VGA ... after FixPaked v3 ... installed SciTech 7.0). OS/2 2.1 didn't recognize the Hercules DigiFire 7.1 Sound card, but after FixPaking v3, it installed. So much for the experiment. My removable hard drive is set as master, so I slipped eCS 1.2 back in. Best of wishes. BTW, I didn't hear if you verified the motherboards jumper settings and rechecked the BIOS ... |

Bios and jumpers are all fine, also I did not do a fresh Install I just clone the SCSI to IDE and move it and tested it on three different PC (1) Pentium III with 512 PC133 RAM 40GIG HDD (2) Pentium 166MHz with 198 PC66 Ram 4GIG HDD (3) Pentium DUO 3.2MHz with 1024 533DDR2 80GIG HDD All of the above works fine except the floppy problems on all, I am able to move the HDD and it works on any PC. When I first tried it on the Pentium 166 everthing was perfect until I found out that the floppy was not working, after changing the drive and it still did not work I found out that is was disabled in the bios. Once I enabled it my printing problem started. So I bascially found out by mere chance that the floppy was causing the Printing Problem. I still think problem is in Config sys. If I have to I can live with it and be very happy as it is, but I am still researching to see if I can solve it. Any help or suggestions I will explore. |

| Hi Jamich, Well, I think it is safe to say that there isn't anything wrong with your hardware, but let's not rule that out. I would hazard a guess that the installation on the hard drive is looking for a particular hardware setup. Consider it a "corrupted install". Can you do a fresh install on another hard drive? If you are using OS/2 2.x, you may need to ensure that it is not huge (by early 1990s standards ). If the new install works, then we can say that it is a configuration issue. When you install an operating system, it needs the appropriate drivers to run on it (just like Windows, Linux, etc.). Newer versions are pretty smart, in that they can reconfigure to new hardware. Best wishes. |

OK this is a clue. Whatever tape system you may have been using, was probably connected to your floppy cable. It's IRQ/port. etc. may still be causing a conflict. I see the following related lines are also REMmed: REM * DEVICE=C:\EZTAPE\IT.SYS REM * RUN=C:\EZTAPE\ITDMN.EXE However, I would like to know about: DEVICE=C:\OS2\TESTCFG.SYS Please save your current CONFIG.SYS (CONFIG.whatever) ... just to be safe.
When you run RMVIEW, what else is using IRQ 7 (I think that is for LPT)? RMVIEW has some options that will provide a granular view of resources. |

In the earlier days we use a 386 with a IRIWN Backup tape that was driven by the floppy cable thats where the EZTAPE part comes in but we upgraded some years after to a 486 with a new 5 1/4 SCSI TAPE drive thats where the NOVA drive is near the end comes in but I REM it because my test PC does not have a tape drive. Aparently when the First upgrade from 386 to 486 about some 8 years ago was done they just modify the Original 386 Config sys. ( oh by the way the original 386 was IDE HDD,7 years later 486 is Scsi HDD and now I am back to IDE HDD so that why my config sys have a few REM's because of the to and fro ) Hope that didn't confuse you, now to your question I really dont know anything about " DEVICE=C:\OS2\TESTCFG.SYS " Also what and where can I find RMVIEW. |

| Hi, Thanks for posting your CONFIG.SYS. It look as if you have a Digiboard serial adapter in the PC, or at least still have the entries for it in the CONFIG.SYS. What IRQs is this using? There were very, very few EISA + MCA machines (notably the IBM PC 500 server) but that was Pentium+, and didn't work anyway.... so I think we can safely say that MCA config is not part of the problem. TESTCFG is a standard part of the CONFIG.SYS. OS/2 usually won't boot without it. DEVICE=C:\DIGI\XALL45C.SYS /T:P /P:1005 /m:0d0000 /n:"digi"1 /f:c:\digi /D:M /V:ERRMSG.DIG DEVICE=C:\EQUINOX\SST.SYS /name=DIGI:1 /f:c\OS2 I'd try REMMING these lines above, to see if it makes any difference. rem The following command installs a BIOS patch for the Real Time rem Clock of this computer. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE IT !!! device=c:\mm_patch.com I would *very* much like you to try remming this out, even tho it says's don't (at your own risk, of course). Now you are on a newer PC, there is no need for it..... Regards, Moby. |
