I doubt they are the first to create an organic light emitting display. If you go to KODAKs web site ( http://www.kodak.com ) and do a search for OLED, you will see they have been working on one for some time and there are products that use it already (one of Panasonics car stereo's has an OLED display). There is also another company (I don't remember the name but I am sure it is not AUO) that is also working on an OLED. They are working on using them on many different devices. A bonus of OLED is that it uses/consumes very little power and does not need a 'backlight' for viewability.

When reading the first few lines "...first full-color OLED (organic light-emitting diode) prototype that combines a-Si (amorphous silicon) TFT LCD technology..." the interesting thing here is that they use samorphous silicon and neither Kodak or Panasonics uses this in their OLED screen. At least I haven't found anything to claim this. Also checked Sanyo and the only information I could find about OLED on their homepage was something like "Info about OLED here" - http://www.sanyo.com/industrial/semiconductors/lcd_oled_prodid.html

Thanks for pointing that out to me. There is alot of material at the http://www.kodak.com site about OLED and it being used already with plans for future uses. I think it will be cool. They show an example of their color OLED that is very thin and viewable from greater angles than current lcd screens. If and when they come out for notebook and/or desktop computers, I hope SDD/2 works with them.

I'm currently using a plain CRT monitor (IBM P70) 17-inch. But, I would die for a TFT screen or something smaller. Only problem still is the price and even if a 15" is rather low price I want to use at least 1152x864 resolution and then I have to get up to 17" and higher price. Yeah, cool technology.

With the prices of LCD screens coming down, it might be too long before an affordable one becomes available. If they use or start using OLED screens (like the one from Kodak) which is suppose to be less expensive to make, the price might come down even farther (I hope ). I think it will not only be neat to have such a screen but easier on the eyes.

Oops. It should have read '..it might NOT be too long...' instead of the '...it might be too long...'. This error gave a totally different meaning to what I was trying to say.

PS Tiger Direct has some inexpensive LCD screens ( http://www.tigerdirect.com ).
