Ah - connecting to NTA few tips, although I might be rusty
I tried some years ago to share folders from an NT domain on an OS/2
and was never successful. I could logon on to the NT domain exactly
once, and only once - then my user ID had to be "reset"on the NT
domain. If I remember correctly it has to do with how the passwords
are encrypted and maintained/stored on NT. I believe that the normal
OS/2 logon process will not log onto an NT domain.
Someone correct me here if I am wrong.
You can however, connect with a shared folder on a standalone NT
machine or NT server, but not to an NT domain. (If you are coming
from the UNIX world this DOMAIN stuff is pretty strange.)
I have an NT 4.0 server, (and Windows 2000 server) in my small
network, along with (WSeB) Warp Server for eBusiness, which is my
domain controller. However each Windows machine is configured as a
stand-alone server. The Workgroup name for both Windows servers is set
to my WSeB domain name (which in my case is "DOMAIN")
All networking stuff in OS/2 is all uppercase. In addition OS/2 user
names are limited to 8 characters and cannot contain spaces. I
believe that your user name and password on NT must be all uppercase,
with no spaces, and cannot exceed 8 characters.
The default user ID for OS/2 is USERID, with a default password of
PASSWORD. OS/2 is somewhat strange in that you can log on and off
either the domain, or "locally" during an OS/2 session. In order to
add more user IDs to OS/2 you first need to logon locally with USERID
and PASSWORD. Once you do that you can go to System Setup - UPM and
add a new user ID. If your OS/2 machine is not connected to a domain,
then you will probably want to create a user ID on the OS/2 machine
that matches your NT user ID and password - remember the 8 character,
uppercase, no spaces limitation. When you try and use a network
resouce, OS/2 passes your USER ID and password to the machine, which
in your case will be your local user id and password - unless you are
successful getting logged onto the NT domain.
Also "Plain old TCP/IP" will not you allow you to share folders with
NT. You have to either install and use the Netbios over TCP/IP
protocol on OS/2, or install the NetBeui protocol on NT. Once again,
I was never successful getting Netbios over TCP/IP to work sharing
with NT - however that might have been connected to the logon to the
NT domain problem.
If the NT box and OS/2 box are on the same side of your router, the
easier thing to do (and it is faster than TCP/IP) is to is enable the
Netbeui protocol on the NT machine. This is done in Control panel,
Networking Icon, Protocol tab. Click the Add button and add the
NetBeui protocol.
Hope this helps. you can contact me at

(without the spaces)
if you want to discuss this further. And please tell me if you are
successful loging onto the NT domain more than once.
