1. Hummingbird Exceed for OS/2 and Gimp |
|
|
Hello everyone, I would like to run Gimp for OS/2. I know there is a wpi-package for Gimp. But as I do have Hummingbird Exceed for OS/2 I would like to run Gimp under Exceed. And here is my question: can somebody explain me how I do have to setup Exceed as well as Gimp to run Gimp with it and do I need anything else to run Gimp with it (any library or what ever). Please apologize my way of questioning but I am a absolute beginner with running unix-based software under OS/2. Thanks a lot in advance for answers and yout patience with me. Thomas |

Here is some information that might help you. The Gimp can be run on OS2/ECS two different ways. You can run it in the WPS and it works ( with problems!)and should not interfere with you're Hummingbird install. The other way to make Gimp work is to install XFree86 (a considerable nightmare, but well worth it if you have the time and patience). Gimp seems to work flawlessly under XFree86 (as well as many other Linux programs). I'm not certian, but I believe you should be able to invoke Hummingbird from XFree86, if not you would simply revert to the WPS and run it as you would normally. Hope this helps! |

Hello klipp, sorry, but your comment does not help. Exceed is somekind the same as XFree86 and therefor I do not need XFree86. Exceed is a Unix-shell (is it that how it is called) and therefor Gimp should be able to run under Exceed. This is my way of understanding it so far. Thomas |

You may still need the xfree86os2 dll's to run. Exceed provides the X session but Gimp I think still has xfree86os2 dll dependencies. Andy |

| Hummingbird EXceed allows you to run X-Windows applications on your desktop. It connects to a Unix (or Linux) system and runs the remote systems applications locally. You'll need to configure EXceed to login into the Unix/Linux system (must have an account on the Linux/Unix system. Think of it as "Remote Desktop". If the remote system has Gimp installed, you will run it in your EXceed application. Hummingbird stopped OS/2 support many years ago and I am not sure what version of X-Windows is supported. I would recommend HOBlink which is bundled with eComStation. Best of luck. |
