1. $100 Laptop by MIT and eCS? |

http://laptop.media.mit.edu/ If it can run Linux, why not OS/2 or eCS?

| It all depends on what system the laptop is based on. Reading the information, I don't see if it specifies what processor it is based on (x86 or something else). Linux has been ported to more processors then probably any other OS out there. If these units are being built on a non x86-based system (or if it is using some build of an embedded linux system), then it is unlikly it would run eCS or OS/2. |

| I note that there is no hard drive. It won't run OS/2 or eCS as we know them today. It might run something like the demo CD, but there's no CD or DVD drive, either. Network boot is out... no ethernet. But the Atheros AR5004G chip is already there in GenMac, so there would be working WiFi. It is x86 -- AMD Geode... It sounds like it could run eCS with enough tweaking. We just need an install program for eCS that runs under Linux.

| With the exception of the demo CD-ROM, installing eCS (or OS/2) wouldn't make it a $100.00 Laptop anymore, would it? |

| I listed it '$100 laptop' as the name but it would cost more if it used eCS . I tried to see if one could boot from an USB drive but I did not see an USB port on it (it could be there but I did not see it). I will look closer at the photos I downloaded from the site. If there was an USB port, perhaps one could boot from eCS from such a device?

| There are USB-Ports. On the Pictures you can see at least 3. This should be enough to connect a mobile HD or USB-Stick, Camera etc. Cheers Achim |

| BWG, Sorry ... I guess I was having fun at your expense. It would be neat to see eCS run on some low cost hardware. I see the USB ports. One on either side of the screen and one on the right side edge of the screen (could be others but I did not see them). Thanks for pointing them out.
